Too much reverb?

Postby Alpeggio » 03 Jun 2013, 07:21

Hi guys I'm working on a track, but having trouble finding my acoustic tone. I think this is a little too much reverb, what do you think.

Is this really a YJM100 you Recorded with??
Yes a little too much Reverb, but very good played. With a little less Reverb it sounds Fantastic.

Thanks Sigi, I will back it off a bit. Yes I'm using the YJM, this amp is so flexible, it can do anything. I'm thinking of trying my Bass guitar through it next.

Is this track with just the guitar a part or the intro of your song or will you mix it with other tracks? If the guitar plays alone then it may be too much reverb. Otherwise it depends and let hear us the rest.

Thanks Sikter, you know I love reverb, but you're right. I've had to move the cab in the room because we're decorating, and now it has lost body and depth, I suppose I was trying to give it some depth, by adding more and more and more Reverb!!! lol.

Thanks Machine Head, that's a good point, but in this case I will be using two guitar parts like the above ( I was just noodling around in the clip above) and that does represent my sound, one guitar played with a pick, and rhythm guitar played with fingers to add depth. So this clip does represent the sound I'll be using. Thanks.

Maybe try a small amount of reverb on the picked lead guitar to keep it in front and mix more effect to the rhythm track so that the second guitar is perceived a little bit behind of the main one.

Use plate for acoustic tone.

Sometimes when I'm in doubt, I just use mastering reverb but most important is
to use it as a SEND FX. (Don't insert it to do track)
Of course my advices apply to dry recording. You don't get chance to
tweak it if you have recorded it wet but just do it over and over again.

IMO, i like it. The verb is luscious. Its right in the middle, neither too much nor too little. This is from the YJM head? Damn, i love verb and that sounds good.

I second Surf's suggestion of using Plate Reverb, and a little less than in this recording. It's almost an echo at this point.

......sounds like you're in the footsteps of Steve Hackett, an early shredder in his own right.

Great suggestions there guys, Thanks.
I want to do a good job on this, I'll post it when its good enough. The reverb on the amp was off, it was coming from the mixer which has on board Lexicon reverb.

Sounded great to me. If you hadn't asked the question, I'd just have assumed that it was the vibe you were going for.

Thanks aristotle, you know what its like, I just want it to sound awesome, but beyond a certain point it starts going backwards, and the notes get lost.
I'm really grateful to you all coming to my aid.
I am almost happy with the tone today, using Plate reverb and less of it.

Will you give us a clip with the plate verb?
