Noisy loop

Postby Uli Jon Blackmore » 07 May 2014, 10:37

This is not a huge issue for me (it is not egregious) but I am wondering why there is more ambient noise when I switch on the loop on my YJM 100 as compared to when the loop is off. This occurs whether there is anything in the loop or not.

Thanks in advance.

I wanted to add that the slight noise remained despite changing the preamp tubes out, with new and NOS.

I think they all do it unfortunately, certainly mine does. I'm just glad its not egregious to you, I will sleep more soundly now knowing this lol.

I think it is because you are hearing some of the noise from the first and second gain stage passing along into the third preamp tube controlling the effects loop. I have found that my effects loop will not work if I have a problem with one of my gain stage preamp tubes. I need to switch out a tube in V1 under the can for example before I get sound again even though the effects loop is controlled by the V3 tube.
