LP - YJM Plexi - blubox. Mr Crowley Solo.

Postby Alpeggio » 04 Aug 2017, 12:45

Hi guys.
I was testing the Plexi and blubox speaker emulator today.
I took a while to dial this in, but I'm quite happy with this tone.
My playing is a little clumsy, but it is a tone test for the Blubox set to greenback.
The Plexi was in 100w mode with no EPA!!!
But with a dummy load and the blubox, I'm able to get these tones as quietly as I like.
See what you think.
Al

Yeah that tone is good, not surprised by the YJM. Nice to see you back in the saddle with the guitars.

Going to go pick up Sigi Monday.... will post pics here.

Thanks Surf. Yeah I'm getting there.
And I don't go back to work until the end of August, so I have time to kill.

You and Sigi have a great time. Wish I was there too.
Looking forward to seeing the photos.

Thanks Roger, I can't help but think the Blubox would be a big help for your recordings.

For sure The Bluebox it's great for recording. It is in my shop list. You made very good recordings with it, as always.

The tone is really good Al. Just curious have you ever tried playing that on the YJM Strat?

Thanks Pete,
No I don't think I have. But it's a good idea. Are you thinking it would add clarity?

I did the backing track myself. Drums were ezdrummer playing a midi file of a Lacuna Coil track of the right tempo.
The bass as usual was through the Helix, and rhythm guitar was the Plexi without boost.
L
Lead guitar had half boost. Now the amp is getting full voltage, it produces more gain.

Even though the LP sounds really good on this clip, from the other clips you have posted with the YJM Strat and the YJM amp they really sound like they were made for each other.

I think you're right Pete.
I'm sure some values were changed over a stock Plexi for Yng.
It just has something special with the Strat.

I really like the tone and playing.
Way to much reverb for my taste.

You have a point about the reverb.
I was going for the Live RR Tribute sound.

Thanks Torshalla, it's good to be back.

I always intended to get the blubox when Thomas Blug first showed it last year.
I thought if I don't get along with the Helix, this will allow me to use real amps.
So far in my test's, the blubox and real amps tone is superior to the Helix.
Not by a massive amount, but its thicker and more musical in the harmonic overtones.

Even though nothing beats a real amp and cab miked up, the truth is, it's nearly always a compromise at home because you can't crank the amp.

So despite the losses of room ambience ( which can be added ) and slightly less good sounding than a real cab, the fact that the amp can now be Cranked compensates.
