In terms of cutting through the mix, which one is better?

I think they cut through both of them. It also depends on the guitar you're using.

Here is the situation with more detail. I own 410H but will move to a combo for portability. With JVM's high compression at OD channels, I had issues. Crunch channel was better but this time lacking the gain without boost. I wonder how it compares to DSL40C for that matter.

The DSL is maybe a bit less compressed than the JVM. But it also depends on how you adjust the JVM. There is not more gain on the DSL crunch mode than on the crunch channel on the JVM.

I tried both at the store today. DSL sounded very fizzy.

You mean the new DSL? I also thought so first. I thought it sounded thin also. But then i did a recording with it and it didn't sound any fizzy and rather fat also. Don't turn up the treble past 4.

Yes tried the new DSL 40C. The gain seemed to be all over the place - not tight nor smooth.

It sounds a lot different to the JCM 2000 DSL i think. But still i like it.
