Welcome aboard, you are correct on all your points. The JVM is a great amp but has way to much going on and things to tweak on it. The VM is simple and straight forward and in the right hands is the best sounding Marshall you can buy today IMO, it is a true players amp. The amp will grow on you and you will love more the more you play it. Most guys plug in and give the amp less than 60 seconds before they dismiss it because they don't know how to use it.

Great bunch of guys here that are not going to "give you shit" when you buy another amp whether it is a Marshall or a Fender, tone is tone and all subjective. Many of us have many different amps but we all recognize the Vintage Modern as very special amp.

As far as the special welcome, our VM house girl we send out to new members for that special welcome is on vacation this week so you are SOL. :bgrin

Welcome to the VM. :Cheers

Pretty good decision. I also had the JVM for a while and switched to the VM a couple of years ago. It feels a lot more organic and I like the simplicity of it. The Body and Detail concept is very unique to this amp. I wish other amps had that kind of "bridged channels" tone option. I liked some of the tones on the JVM (but disliked others) and it had a lot of features but in the end it seemed a bit overdone for my uses. The JVM's an impressive piece of engineering and Santiago did an awesome job designing it. Around here is more Dawson (The Godfather) territory.

I'll send the VM house girl over when she's through here. :wasted

I also had the JVM and sold it .... bought the VM a few months later.
I never liked the JVM. Great cleans though.
The amp sounds great on low volumes but when using it live the amp just drowned ... no tone/personality.
I've managed to dial in great sounds on my VM, 800, 900 and 2000 but not the JVM ...

haha! thanks for tha warm welcome guys! im glad ive found home, the guys back at the JVM forum have apologised, and weve burried the hatchet now, which is all good!

I had my JVM for 3 years, and ive never been 100% happy with it, so i finally got rid of it, i'm currently playing through my 7 year old MG half stack until i get the VM next month, then im selling the MG!

after selling my JVM, i still have my 1960 lead cab, do i keep it, buy new speakers for it?

or do i sell it and get a VM matching cab?

As always tone is subjective and no other single thing in your chain makes a bigger difference than the speakers you are using. I have tried almost all Celections with the VM and the G12T-75W that are in the 1960 cab are one of my least favorite with it, just to harsh. The greenbacks are a great match with the KT66s.

Just my opinion but yes I would get the matching cab. Currently MF has these cabinets for $699 which is about a low as I ever have seen them. They are a great match.

Well that is really whatever you prefer but be aware that the purple tolex is no longer being made in the VM line. The purple does look black unless you get some light shining on it.

Welcome to the forum CrossRoadBlues. :Thumbs

Judging by your forum name the Vintage Modern should be well suited to you.

Hey man, welcome to the forum. Don't sell your 1960 until you've got your head (unless, obviously it's that sale that'll fund it all). I'm using the 100w head through a JCM900 1960 cab with the stock G1275's and it sounds absolutely killer!

Surf's not wrong in saying that they do sound brighter than the 425 cabs, but I think it depends on the style you'll be playing. At the moment I'm going through a pretty high-gain phase so the 1960 suits me great for now.

If you can, try the 2266 through the 1960 first - you might love it!

Also - I got a black one. The purple tolex is very nice, but it's wasn't the 'classic' Marshall look that I craved :Thumbs

Hi! Welcome to the forum!!! ;)
I used to have bunch of racks, preamps, so on and so on...When I started to realize that having to much to choose I wouldn't go and have a tone of my own, i.e., I wouldn't explore myself as far as a guitarist/player is concerned. So I started to look to those heros of the 70's...I notice they had such a great tone and FEELING just play straight into the amp.
I gotta have one of those...
So I started searching for the ultimate amp that give me best price, best sound, best feeling, best value...best of all! None of the amps I tried didn't gave me that...until I decided to buy blindly a 2266...And I married to this amp in the sameday I took out of the box and tried in the guitar store. It's the amp I was looking for over almost 20 years...AMAZING!
I hope the VM satisfies you as it satisfies me 100%! ;)

Btw: Just to piss off some heads: You should have write (JVM/J) = VM not JVM - J = VM
(I'm studying maths, right now!) sorry!

LOL

Cheers,
