Surf's not wrong in saying that they do sound brighter than the 425 cabs, but I think it depends on the style you'll be playing.
Yngwie Malmsteen rolls with the 1960 cabs with the VM.

NO way the JVM sound as good as the VM. its another tone completely

And sorry but i got a JVM and its a real crappy amp.. noisy as hell and the tone is like a solidstate amp

By the way, dont play the VM with 1960 CAB, ITs pure CRAP

There are lots of reviews in the effects section of all kinds of OD pedals. I have tried about 6 different ones with the 2466 only to settle on what I consider the best clean boost out there. The VM can really sound great without any pedals but what I find is at lower master volume levels a OD pedal helps get that grind in smaller venues. I prefer the clean boost though because it keeps the tome intact and gives the amp more headroom and a nice push in Low dynamic range.

Take a look at this thread.

One last thing. Love the Greenback with this amp as I have both the 425 and the 1060BX, but the stock 425 cabinets come loaded with a special voiced Greenback made for Marshall by Celestion (G12C's) and are found only in the Jimi Hendrix cabinets as well as the VM cabinets. They are a stubborn speaker to break in also IMO, a good 25-30 hours.

I got both a JVM and a VM and they are both great amps. It all depends on what you like and what you need. I play my VM with different cabs the 1960B Vintage, 425B and an old 80´s 1960A with 75W Celestions. And I can get a good tone with all of them. I just tweak the controls on the amp a bit. So don´t rush out selling your 1960 cab.

I also don´t agree that the JVM is a complicated amp. It´s almost like 4 amps in 1. And the dual masters is great. I must admit I sometimes have a hard time with the look of all these controls. But many amps have these nowdays. And no way it sounds like a solid state amp. Actually solid state amps can sound real good.
I can get a closer tone to my Plexi on the JVM than on my VM. The VM sounds a bit more open and less compressed. Maybe it´s the EL34´s. The VM is a bit more like an old Marshall and needs to be turned up to at least 8 on the master to sound it´s best.

when I first got my vm i used a 212 marshall cab, english one, hated the vm. Then I bought the matching cab 425b and I was like I get it now this a very cool amp, for me though lacking in gain I boost it ive tried diff overdive/dist pedals looking for 80's metal tone ratt dokken I know I started with wrong amp for that sound. vm is a zep maybe early metal amp still way cool though

I own a 1960 V and a 425 cab but I usually play throuhg an 80´s 1960 cab with 75W at gigs and I have no problem getting a good sound on that. Still if I compare these speakers I like the 75W least. But they are not bad sounding. I didn´t mean that the VM don´t sound good below volume on 8. I just meant that most Marshalls have a high end sizzle that is less audible if you turn the amp up. The VM has more of this sizzle than the JVM on low volumes. You can use the tone controls to take away some of this sizzle on low volumes. But the tone controls on the VM due to the design is less effective than on the JVM. It´s more like an old Marshall on this.

Surfnorthwest I know I´ve asked this before but since you got both what do you feel is the differebce in voicing between the Gteenbacks in the Marshall Classic cab and the VM 425 cab?
Got a 425 cab but wondering if I should change to the Classic cab with standard Greenbacks since I besides my VM also uses a plexi reissue and a JVM.
