JVM205C Sounding tinny?

Postby the_rocker » 03 Aug 2011, 04:52

Hi guys,

I have been the owner of a JVM205C for over a year now, but ive never been happy with its sound. It seems that no matter what I try, I always end up with a thin 'tinny' type sound. I even at one point got a 2x12 extension cab for it, but it didnt really solve my problem.

I got the amp because its far more convinient lugging a combo about for practice etc... But Ive been taking one of my heads more recently because the JVM205C doesn't cut the mustard for me. It doesn't even come close to my JVM410H (which i am getting rid of today anyway).

So can someone suggest some settings for me, I am looking for a nice thick, high gain overdrive sound. The clean channel I can manage.

Cheers

Update:

Just tried out some settings from the JVM forum and its sounding better. Better but not mind blowing. I suppose I may have the "WHY ISN'T THIS SOUNDING LIKE A 4x12" bug...

I am still hoping for some input from you guys.

Hi, I wasn't happy with mine till i put a vintage 30 in it, i have 215c btw. now i love it, i play mainly classic rock and most of the time i'm on OD orange or red. one thing i don't do is use the presence or the resonance, both at 0.
my setting with a Les Paul
gain 2
eq all around 5
channel vol 4
master vol 5

The JVM should not sound thin or tinny. I would take it to a amp tech and give it a checkup and bias, that is what it sounds like to me.

Well from the JVM forums I am now trying these on OD Orange and I am a lot happier with the sound.

GAIN - 3
TREB - 4
MID - 3
BASS - 8
CHAN VOL - 5
PRES - 10
RES - 10
MAST VOL - 3

Like you say, it may be worth having an amp tech check it out so I might just do that in the near future.

Any suggestions for a nice clean sound?

If you have an eq pedal, put it in the loop. I have got some of my best tones like this. It really helps you find that sweet spot, fill in the gaps and enhance sort of effect. I use a kerry king model myself and I think it is my best pedal purchase ever. Another thing, is check your bias. Good luck

If you turn up the gain the sound usually gets fatter. Also the 205 amp only has the OD2 channel of the 410 amp wich is thinner more scooped sounding.
