Oh well must be the shortest ownership

Postby kossofffan » 08 Aug 2015, 09:56

The courier company texted me an hour slot, so sat at home looking out for the van when I received an email with a photo of another front door with the same house number saying I was out !
Can you find a phone number to call on their website? really difficult, eventually was able to find a human to speak to and was told the driver would return soon to MY address.
Anyway when it came, I eagerly plugged in to be met with a loud loud white noise hiss on volume 1. A change of cabs, leads etc offered no solution. The valves looked perfect in colour too.

Don't hear anything weird apart from that ticking noise at the end... you should get that checked :)

Seriously though... first thing that springs to mind is bad pre-amp tubes on the one channel, but that is based on that I've heard such noise from old lightbulbs... almost like an arch is resonating through the glass... only here it is amplified.
That said... I am really guessing here. I know tubes are supposed to make an amp sound good and that they looks like lightbulbs... but I also know that you might not see a bad tube by its color. An arch would perhaps discolor it, but only where it is close to the glass.

I'm just throwing it out there... I'm a firm believer of shotguns and brainstorming... Shoot enough and you should end up hitting something :D

Sounds like one hell of a microphonic tube to me.

I had that on my 1986 lead and bass model turned out to be a fault with the jack. Try switch cleaner on the jack and in and out a good few times with a lead.
Hope you get it sorted
