Maybe consider moving to Anchorage. Our winters have gotten pretty mild and instead of 8-12 feet of snow, we are getting more rain and maybe 2-4 feet of snow. Its still dark most of the time, but warmer dark is better than colder dark!

It's my theory that this is why guys like EVH and Ynfwie are so good. Ever notice how many guitar prodigies are Scandinavian? It gets cold there - real cold, right? Tube amps get warm. In very cold regions more warmth is better than less warmth so people buy big tube amps and run them all the time. They figure since they have them they might as well play them as much as possible, so they get really amazing at guitar. Plus it helps that they're snowed in and playing guitar is all they can do.

I’ve always believed it was due to the high quality poonani in Scandinavia.
Look at Led Zeppelin circa 1970-71, immediately after touring Scandinavia & Iceland their creativity skyrocketed.
