Las Vegas Review

Postby surfnorthwest » 29 Dec 2017, 06:30

Not sure what I was thinking going to Las Vegas over Christmas but none the less the place just turns people into to idiots.

Wife and I decided to go for a week since its been over 10 years since we last visited. Now, I used to go down there all the time in the 70-s and 80s, but Vegas was MUCH different then. It used to be you got great value for every dollar spent there. Now, you pay the highest prices in the country for what now is corporate Vegas. The place was choked with people, half of them Asians coming over from Japan and China.... WTF.

Stayed at a Hotel called the Cosmopolitan, it very modern and chic, perhaps almost a little gay. Our room was badass, it overlooked the Bellagio Fountains so we could sit out on our balcony and watch the water fountain show every 30 minutes. Was best to snuggle up with my Honey Jack than get ripped off at a Vegas bar. Awesome view.

From the time you show up here there is no end to those wanting a tip or have there hand out. I actually had fun stiffing those folks. But the place is nuts expensive anymore. Used to be free flowing booze, now its $15-$18 per drink. A dinner for two with drinks is well north of $100. The Casinos are so tight that it is a mental disorder to even gamble here anymore but thousands do.

We went to see the Beatles show which was well done but perhaps a little overdone.

We got VIP seats for KA - Cirque du Soleil which was pretty cool.

The best show was Raiding the Rock Vault which brings the history of rock ‘n’ roll to life, featuring classic anthems by the biggest acts in music including The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Free, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Boston, Kansas, U2, Aerosmith, Van Halen, AC/DC, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Heart, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Supertramp and many more.

The lineup was awesome. Howard Leese [Guitar] (Heart), Robin McAuley [Lead Vocals] (MSG, Survivor), Doug Aldrich [Guitar] (Whitesnake, Dio), Paul Shortino [Lead Vocals] (Rough Cutt, Quiet Riot), Jay Schellen [Drums]

In the end Vegas is not for me. I don't mind spending money but I hate being gouged and ripped off. People turn into fake assholes here. And the women today are not hot like years ago here, they are all getting fat now. Next year it will be a nice beach somewhere.

Don't matter where it occurs, once the corporate mindset of greed above anything else set in, it ruins everything. What you are describing sounds eerily similar to a traveling carnival, every time you turn around you are digging out another buck.

Aside from that hope the time was well spent for you.

There is not even a place to sit down unless your in the casino, restaurant or bar. I think folks sit in a room all day thinking up ways to take your money fast.

For what was spent in the week there I could have gone to Maui cheaper.

Las Vegas has never held any interest for me. If I want to get robbed, I'll save myself the airfare and lodging and just go wander the west side of Manchester aimlessly until someone mugs me.

I took my wife and two sons there back on 2014. I am retired from the airlines so we fly free. We stayed at New York New York. My wife and I don't drink or smoke or gamble.
We basically took are boys there on vacation. It was not a good experience at all for me. The people there are really rude. Real inconsiderate and self centered.
Its a dark place really not a good place for a family visit. We did the Circus Circus thing for the kids but it totally sucked. The only good thing I enjoyed was the view from our Hotel.
The food was just ok as well. Then to top things off Im walking with my wife and kids and I guy comes up to me and try's to hand me a flyer for a escort that will come right to your room.
Thats the mentality you deal with when you are in Vegas. I just put my hand up and shook my head like what are you a moron or something? It was crazy. And yes he was a moron.
Im a huge fight fan and Im into the UFC and Boxing and the only way I would ever go back would be for a UFC event or a Boxing match and I would be in and out If I did decide to go.
Vegas sucks. Its a rip off. Overrated.

Not the seemingly nice place they portray on pawn stars or counting cars, eh?
