Facebook sued

Postby Slash1337 » 06 Sep 2011, 21:51

http://news.yahoo.com/facebook-sued-fat ... 07158.html

This is ridiculous... anyone anywhere can sign up on ANY site whether they're 3 years old or 98 years old. This to me is bad parenting. No one else is to blame except the girl. For god sakes my parents didn't get me a god damn computer until I was 14, AND a cell phone until I was in grade 12. The only thing I had was a PS2 and XBOX. Seriously.. If I was facebook I'd be laughing my ASS OFF at this. It's almost impossible for any site to KNOW exactly how old you are. Age verification? Anyone who knows how to count can pass that. I put in my birtdhday as June 26th, 1990. And then it asks "How old are you?"... You gotta be kidding. Another case of bad parenting and the father is sueing FB in hopes of what? He won't win at all. I hope he doesn't at least.

That one is a good joke. "My kid does terrible things and it definitely isn't MY fault!"

Sadly this is a great example of whats wrong in the world today, failure to take responsibility of ones own issues caused by your lack of skills. From those who sue because they spill coffee in their own laps and get 2 million because McDonalds served coffee that was to hot to the parents of teens who kill themselves because they listen to Judas Priest and Ozzy. My daughter did something like this on facebook and she was 16; I hit the roof and banned her from PC access at the house and grounded her for a month. Then my neighbor got involved because his daughter did the same and since my daughter was older she was blamed for causing this entire ugly situation. I defended my daughter and after a few months things calmed down and the other girl involved was pregnant in middle school. Eventually this same girl ended up dropping out of high school and having 3 children by what would have been her senior year.

The huge difference in this situation is that not only did I punish my daughter; I sat her down and let her know why it was wrong. I also allowed her to think it was her decision and eventually after the dust settled my daughter chose a different path. She visited me yesterday with her boyfriend, they just adopted a kitten together. My daughter is on scholarship at USM and a senior with a average GPA of over 3.70. Her boyfriend is getting a commission in the US Army and going to rotary wing flight school (he wants to fly heavies) this spring. I for one am very proud of my children and lets not forget about my son who is a US Marine NCO and a Combat Veteran and going to make me a Grand Daddy again. Yes I had difficult times with my children, although I always even to this day tell them whats wrong, then I would explain to themwhy its wrong and let them see the evils of their ways. It might not be top notch parenting skills, although it worked for me as a single parent who is very proud of his children.

I made a commitment to my children when I raised them by myself, in fact then last 4 years of high school I was not a gigging musician. I quit my band so I could be there for my children, its a commitment. I accept responsibility for my actions right or wrong.

Sadly this facebook case will settle in some form and there will be copy cat actions in the US hoping to "Show me the money".

The thing that gets me, is how is one to know that he didn't tell his daughter to do it and then sue Facebook? It's ridic! People are screwed up enough to do shit like that now a days which is even more ridiculous..

I applaude you!!! I am also a single parent trying to raise my children in a world where us parents values are way out gunned by t.v. video games, and peers. This world needs to learn that everything is not always someone elses fault, and we need to suck up and be responsible for our own actions.

Good luck Jag, I was officially finished when my kids graduated high school; well almost. I would not even try it now with a child even if I was married. Today is a scary world and my hats off to you and the others trying to raise kids today. Sadly it was only 5 short years ago when Julie was in HS (my youngest) and in that very small amount of thime the world has gone to hell in a hand basket and then some...
