I also allowed her to think it was her decision and eventually after the dust settled my daughter chose a different path. She visited me yesterday with her boyfriend, they just adopted a kitten together. My daughter is on scholarship at USM and a senior with a average GPA of over 3.70. Her boyfriend is getting a commission in the US Army and going to rotary wing flight school (he wants to fly heavies) this spring. I for one am very proud of my children and lets not forget about my son who is a US Marine NCO and a Combat Veteran and going to make me a Grand Daddy again. Yes I had difficult times with my children, although I always even to this day tell them whats wrong, then I would explain to themwhy its wrong and let them see the evils of their ways. It might not be top notch parenting skills, although it worked for me as a single parent who is very proud of his children.
I made a commitment to my children when I raised them by myself, in fact then last 4 years of high school I was not a gigging musician. I quit my band so I could be there for my children, its a commitment. I accept responsibility for my actions right or wrong.
Sadly this facebook case will settle in some form and there will be copy cat actions in the US hoping to "Show me the money".
I applaude you!!! I am also a single parent trying to raise my children in a world where us parents values are way out gunned by t.v. video games, and peers. This world needs to learn that everything is not always someone elses fault, and we need to suck up and be responsible for our own actions.
