Poll: Best pick-scrape

Postby Papus » 09 Sep 2011, 01:03

I'll start us off:

Just listened to Highway to Hell - the pick-scrape in the chorus after the guitar solo is pretty impressive!
Dime that puppy!!!

Normally this song wouldn't really be on my radar but it literally came up as a joke in a conversation between friends the other day and someone mentioned that it had the best pick scrape ever:

Guitars - 2007 Gibson Les Paul Standard, 2014 Fender American Standard Telecaster, 2014 Fender American Standard Stratocaster, 2013 Gibson SG Standard, 2014 Epiphone Casino, 1997 Ibanez RG470

I'm with ya there, plus what other song out there feeds off the A String with C and D accents that even comes close to as heavy and recognizable as Stranglehold.

Jocko

Lights, knobs, switches, tolex
and other items of worthless junk

There is no more awesome pick scrape in history than the one at the very end of "You're Gonna Need Me" on the James Gang "Live In Concert" lp from 1971. First a slow slide up the strings then a perfect scrape back down as the drums and bass kick back in.

Joe also gives a demonstration of playing heavy without speed on this song. He's plugged into a HiWatt DR103 that Pete Townshend gave him, btw.
