JCM-1C Tubes info

Postby oscar1975 » 16 Dec 2015, 07:13

Hello to everyone.

I'm new in the forum.

I own a JCM-1C and I was looking for tubes spares.
After an internet search the stock tubes installed should be

V3 power valve VLVE-00009 12AU7/ECC82 No selection White Logo
V2 - Chinese ECC83 - marked VLVE-00055 or VLVE-00049 in white or gold
V1 - JJ ECC83 selected for low microphony - marked VLVE-00066 and all printing in red

Now I'm not sure which brand JJ, Tungsol, GT, it depends from the cost.

Some questions
- difference from tube balanced or not?
- can I use same ECC83 type for V1 an v2?

thanks for the helps!
oscar

In theory V3 which is the power tube should be balanced since this is a class a/b push/pull amp.

which is the difference from balanced or not? The tone it wil affect or it is only a technical benefict?

edit just got a mail from tube online seller

"balanced" means this tube has been selected for the same gain of both internal triode systems. This can be needed for audio/hifi amps and such things, to minimize distortion resulting from imbalance. For a guitar amp a standard 12AU7 is usually sufficient.

Using a pre-amp tube in a power amp circuit doesn't leave a lot room to play with. Although paying extra for a balanced tube might make you feel better it really wont have much effect otherwise unless the two triodes are so far apart that the tube is considered junk anyways. Tube matching only becomes important when you are dealing with larger power amps. Having sides that are unbalanced will introduce unwanted noise artifacts.
