Strange problem with the lead channel (3)

Postby P00PDOG » 28 Jan 2014, 18:48

I have had my 6100 for a long time probably since 98 or 99....went on tour with me a few times ect but has been sitting in my room for a lot of years. Anyway, I started playing with the guys again and discovered that the lead channel is not working. If you are listening close you can hear it but it is real low...you can crank up the volume and it does get a little louder but its like going from .02 to .04...the crunch and clean channels are perfect, its just the lead channel. I got 1 12ax7 and tried swapping it with the V3, then tried V4, and then V5 <--troubleshooting guide shows these as the lead channel pre tubes...I didn't bother with V2 since the crunch uses that as well.

I was very thorough with the buttons on the back and front, I read a few threads here and made sure that buttons were not my problem....anyway I'm getting ready to take it in to my amp repair guy but was curious if anyone here has heard of this type of problem...like maybe this is a known issue or something....Image

I had one here with the same issue. It was the contour switch not making a connection. You can try cleaning the switches for channel 3 with Deoxit D5 and see if that brings the channel back.

I haven't taken the chassis out of the case yet, maybe I can give this a try tonight...My amp guy hasn't gotten back to me yet so I'll give it a go. Thanks for the advice...
