Loss of Volume

Postby booger007 » 21 Feb 2016, 05:13

Playing my 6100 last night at practice fairly loud and had a sudden major loss of volume. Didnt have much time to check it out as I swapped out with my DSL50 due to time constraints. Gonna replug it in today to take a look. Any ideas would be appreciated. Was on Channel 3 when it happened

Ok, we will look at the simple stuff first.

The volume loss is only on channel 3 or is it affecting all three channels?

Do you have any spare 12ax7 tubes?

Has volume on all channels again. Sounds a little tinny. When I was playing it last night I had probably been running it fairly hard for about an hour. Did here a little crackle

Amp actually sounds fine. Ran it pretty hard for a bit this morning. Wonder if it was power related? In my man cave their is only one 20 amp grounded circuit and I do have quite a bit using that entire circuit? Only thing I can think of that is different today. Last night I was using the loop as well when it happened, then switched the loop to parallell and tried running straight into the amp, no go and thats when I switched to the DSL. Today I did run it with a cable in the loop for testing purposes

A low voltage scenario wouldnt cause the kind of volume drop you were describing but it would make the amp sound a little dull. To get the voltage low enough to kill to sound your other equipment wouldnt work right either and prolly would be drawing so much current that the circuit breaker would trip. If curious when using this line, put a voltmeter into the outlet and measure the line voltage with everything running on it and you will know exactly whats there for voltage.

No tube swap Anitoli. Is it possible a tube like the PI got hot? I actually wish it would still be showing the symptom cause now I will always worry about it happening again. Probably not power related I was just guessing because I have 2 100 watt heads, the bass amp and the PA all on one power conditioner into said grounded 20 amp circuit. It was also pretty loud in there as stuff was coming off the shelves :bgrin

A bad cable or jack contact can do that as well. Put everything back the way it was and test.

I can do that. Is there any sense to change tubes? Power tubes are TAD's and not very old? Or pre's? I have spares for everything
