When you mention parasitic oscillation feeding through the grid stoppers, that reminds me of an issue with 4100's that the caps in the bias supply would start failing and would introduce very high frequency oscillation that can only be seen on a scope which causes the bias voltage to disappear. Would you have a scope handy?

I do not. If I'm going to continue doing my own work, I suppose I should order one.
