New Fender YJM guitar cable V Monster Rock cable

Postby Alpeggio » 09 May 2014, 13:55

One for my fellow cork sniffers, which one is best?
I think the Monster is better in the lower mids, while the Fender is better in the upper mids.
See what you think.
This was the Les Paul and one 10ft cable into the 800KK.

I prefer the monster,a litter brighter with the upper mids and treble cutting through, also sounds a little more "transparent" to my ear, the fender is definitely darker..

It's suppressing how noticeable it is on a recording I'm sure at volume or in person these differences are very slight but it's still there

Just gave it a second listen and there is an articulation with the upper mids with the fender during chord work that's not there so much with the monster, as I think over all this is thicker in the mids, it could even be slight variation in the way it was played though

Thanks Sully, I'm hearing the better top end tone in the Fender, but more Bass in the Monster. Wish I could combine the two.
btw, the Monster cost me £40 and the Fender £15! big difference.

I got to go with the Monster. Both sound good. I like the slight compressed sound of the Fender but the Monster has the clarity. Pretty noticeable difference though.

You could always swap the chords when recording a stereo mix. The slight tonal difference should compliment each other.

Yeah, I'm thinking that Cousin, record once with each cable then mix them together. This tone chasing is endless!

Yeah great value for money that new Fender YJM cable, I'm wondering whether it is tuned to work best with his Strat, I'll test that next.

What length does 15 quid get you? I bought a couple of 10 footer kinsmans as a temp fix for my loop but not sure they are gunna be long enough for when I get back to the rehearsal space

That is for the 10ft cable, I always get 10ft for my small studio, and also a shorter cable sounds better.

I have all Monster. Speaker cable too. When I'm not experimenting with a crazy pedal setup with George L's I use Monster 6" for the couple pedals I really use. I had read that it's best to use all the same type from the beginning of your signal to the end.

Yeah so do I Cousin, even the Mic cable is Monster, but I thought for the money I'd see what the Fender YJM is like. I like the Gothic Font they use for his name too.
