New DSL more like a Haze

Postby Mats A » 05 Apr 2014, 21:12

According to my brother the new DSL schematic looks more like the Haze amp then the old JCM 2000 DSL.

I have a Haze 15. So is that a good thing or bad thing? I personally think the Haze 15 is a good home amp. Never get to crank it.

Maybe the 2 15watters are close both 2 channel 6V6 amps but the DSL has more pre amp tubes. As for the 40 watters they are not even close

You mean besides the digital reverb and the resonance control the circuit is the same as the old DSL.

But this is what YOU heard. Not your experience, YOU didn't look at the schematic.

The Haze 15 is a 6V6 amplifier.
The DSL40c & 100h are both EL34 amps.
The circuits are not similar.

The DSL15 is a 6V6 amplifier, and again the circuits are not similar.
The DSL15 has adjustable gain on the Classic channel, where the Haze 15 does not.

Surprisingly, the Haze 15 is more similar to the DSL5c, which has a single 12BH7a final.

Both have a Plexi-style Classic channel with a gain-adjustable Ultra channel.

My brother did. He knows tech sides of things. But he says he's not sure the JCM 2000 DSL schematic on Dr. Tube is correct.

But since you seem to know is the new DSL 100 like the old JCM 2000 DSL circuit wise? I do think the new DSL sound quite different.

They aren't exactly the same, and that would account for the slight difference in tone.
But tone or how they sound compared to each other is a very subjective thing.

Comparing the circuits they are not vastly different, but enough so to make note of it.
The added Resonance and Presence controls make a big difference.
Surprisingly the older DSL's have transistors in the preamp section, and the new ones don't.

Not enough space here to list ALL the differences, and I will leave it up to others to decide if the new ones are an improvement over the JCM2K series.

Transistors? Surely the new must have transisors in the preamp. ThE JCM 2000 DSL also had a presence control. Would be nice to have a correct schematic of the JCM 2000 DSL 100W
