Hi everyone, I'm Philip. I'm new here and I love marshalls. The reason why I am writing this post is to express my ecxitment about my recently scoring a marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 for a steal on eBay. I talked this guy down from $550.00 to $350.00 for the amp and I couldn't be more happier about it. I already am the proud owner of a JCM2000 DSL 50 and now of a DSL 100. The other reason I am writing is because I'd like to know if anyone cah help me to date my 2 DSL'S so if there is anyone that can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

Ok thanks, I will have to check the serial numbers. But I can't do it until after the weekend. But as soon as I have the chance I will post them.

Yes hi everyone, sorry I took so long with my reply. Well anyway I have the serial number for the DSL50, it is M-2002-23-0386-B. I actually did some research on marshall serial numbers and found out that all marshall serials after I believe 1997 actually start with the year the amp was made. So am I correct in assuming that my DSL 50 was made in 2002. As for the DSL 100, there is no sticker, it looks like it was torn off at some point. Is there any other way to tell it's age? And also I now have another problem, the DSL 100 does not power on. As I said I bought it from a guy on ebay who inherited it from an uncle that used to play. I asked him if he knew the last time the amp was powered up and actually used and he doesn't have any idea when it was. But anyway getting back to the amp, when I first plugged in the mains cord and powered it up it did go on but then after a few seconds it went off. I tried a couple of different mains cords and nothing. It doesn't want to power up. So can anybody tell me what is going on with it? Can it be the fuse or something more major, please anybody help!!!

LOL Thanks guys.

Ok well I opened the DSL 100 and there was a serial number on the inside and it started with M-2003 so again I'm assuming that means it was made in 2003.

Could be a valve or a fuse. I guess you'd better take it to a tech and have it checked over. Hard to tell just by this. Did it power up and then just shut down? Any weird sound?

Hey Mats, yes that's exactly what it did. It powered up for maybe 5 seconds and then it just shut down. But it didn't make any weird noise, or at least none that I heard. But then again I wouldn't know if it did because it wasn't connected to a speaker.

Thanks,
Philip.

Hm no speaker connected is not a good thing. But it wouldn't make the amp break down so fast. Maybe if there was something else that was faulty. In most cases it's a valve.

Well actually I lied, I forgot I had it connected to a small orange 1×10 speaker. But still as I mentioned the on/off power switch lit up and so did the valves and maybe 5 or 10 seconds later everything went out.

Well everyone, I did a little investigating and I found something. My mains fuse is blown, could this be the cause of my problem? Am I correct in assuming that the mains fuse supplies the power for the mains plug/cord connection? Which would cause everything else not to work since the amp is not getting any power? Please any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks.

It doesn't really supply the power it's there as a safety buffer. If you replace it check for the right value. Chances are that the blown fuse indicates some other problem so that it'll blow again. Could be an output valve. I'd have the amp checked by a tech.

Ok, well I went ahead and bought some new fuses, same amp and volt value as was the original fuse that blew and the new one blew also. So I guess I'm going to have to take her to the doctor which I will be doing first thing tomorrow.
