new dsl100h - opinions

Postby gainaddict » 31 Mar 2017, 23:22

Hi -
I can get a new Viatnamese dsl100h for a relatively good price (~1000usd).
Tried it yesterday in a store. The cleans were full and od matched my taste - very 80s like. Sounded good even at low volume level.
I can hook this amp to my 2*12 Marshall jcm c212 cab loaded with Marshall Heritage speakers.

Would love to hear your opinions on this.

Thanks.

I have played all the new DSL amps, and apart from the 15w they're all good.
Full valve amps, unlike Blackstar HT competition.

The 100w head can be dialed in for some great beefy rock tones using the resonance dial.
Classic rock is no problem with the crunch channel.
Boost it with a low gain pedal, like xotic bb type, and it's almost as good as the jvm js.

I'm sure you can dial it in with the Heritage speakers.

Thanks for the prompt feedback Al.
Though I count on Al, anyone else tried/have this amp?

Hey Al,
How was your impression regarding its' abilities on relatively low levels of volume?

Well, I brought the 40w combo home, to try in my small studio. And I expect the 100w to perform similarly.

It required a certain volume level to come alive. Unfortunately this level was more than I can run at home.

Round my friends house with its large living room, it produced some great tones though.

Really each amp is different in this respect and you can never tell until you try it.

Remember your friends yt test of a jvm1 v jvm 100 at home. The 1w was a better tone because it's master volume was on 8, while the 100w was on 1.

Big amps like to be driven much harder than small amps. They do not get in the groove until there is some current flowing through the tubes. Then the magic comes alive.

Tried the dsl100 again at the store today.
The ultra gain channel wasn't quite to my taste. Too screamy/harsh.
Guess we're not meant to be.

Well just a thought.
In the shop was you able to try the amp through your Heritage loaded cab?

I hope you didn't try it with a 1960 cab.

I haven't tried the new DSL100 but maybe you would like the underrated TSL100, it is also a bit noisy in red mode(lead chanel) but I think it sounds much better at low volume than the DSL. Of course if you like/want used amps.

I think I tried it on the MX212 cab.

I have played through the MX212 and found it to be a good cab.
I was surprised, it's supposed to be a budget cab.

But its voice is much brighter than your Heritage speakers imho.
