2012 Marshall DSL 100 H

Postby Roger » 03 May 2019, 04:50

Hi all!
A friend of mine found a 2012 DSL100H, GREAT DEAL! Very cheap. He wants buy It. In few days we will test It. Is the 2012 DSL100H build with MIDI footswitch like the new ones? I don't think so. Any advice for early DSL reedition?

Thanks in advance.

I have the DSL100H. It’s a very solid amp. LOUD AF! I think it’s a much better amp than it’s message board reputation would indicate. Both channels sound good. I especially like the Classic channel. Both the Clean mode & crunch mode are all Marshall & are killer! The Ultra channel is quite a bit brighter than the Classic channel, and unless you clip or change the bright cap, or use a pedal, it’s not practical to use as a standard channel switching amp, to me anyway. It does have TONS of gain & is more modern sounding on Lead 1 & 2. I’m considering taking the 470pf bright cap, putting it on a mini switch and putting a 100pf cap with it so I can have options for the factory 470pf cap, 100pf cap, or no cap. It doesn’t make a ton of difference when it’s cranked, but I don’t see me cranking this one all that much and based on what I’ve seen on YouTube, the switch with the 2 caps seems like a great mod for this amp. Should be much better for low volume use.
Also, I had one issue with this amp about 2 yrs after I got it. V7 shorted & took out the screen grid resistor & grid stopped. Luckily the power tubes are chassis mounted, unlike the older DSL’s, so it didn’t do any other damage & the socket & resistors were a breeze to replace. And fwiw, I have heard that there have been some amps that have had the V6 tube socket wired incorrectly from the factory, yet the amp still functions. I cannot substantiate this firsthand, but a friend of mine, who is also the amp tech where I get parts, told me that he’s seen a two himself.
Cheers!
