Delay pedals...

Postby Guitardave » 11 Jul 2013, 03:37

Seeing as the SL-5 has no fx loop, has anyone tried a delay pedal in front of it? Does it sound ok?

Also, I'm thinking of getting an OD or boost pedal for use as a solo boost - if I did that I presume the delay pedal would go in front of the whole lot, or would it go OD-Delay-Amp?

Only had the amp for a day - love the tone of it :-)

Thanks!

Cool, have you tried it? I'm a bit concerned that it's going to get mushy with delay out front, although I'll only be using maybe 2 longish repeats.

If its any consolation the man himself only ever runs delay through the front of his amps and he uses it a lot on his leads and I've never heard the guy sound mushy ;) if you're worried about it though I would personally go for a clean boost that'd add a little top end sparkle and cut, my mxr 401 is good for that and a simple one knob job, or the TCE spark iS a nice option
les Paul -> cry baby -> mxr/CAE boost/line driver -> mxr m77 super bad ass modified OD -> marshall 2266 front end ->loop -> TC flashback delay -> mxr 10 band EQ -> marshall sv-1 chorus -> loop return -> marshall mf280a 4x12 cab

Funnily enough, the TC Spark is one that I've got my eye on. It only adds a little bit of gain, but it looks quite versatile with the other controls it has.

Good news that Mr. Slash uses delay out front - I guess it can't be that bad then :-)

There a little pricey but, I like the wampler Hotwire, and the Wampler Faux Analog Delay. Or the Vodoo sparkle .. I also like the Boss DD3 for delay. Boss also has several good OD pedals.
