I have a question to people who have SL5 and JVM1.
What range of gain has SL5 compared to the JVM1?

sl5 gain on 10 = JVM1 gain on ????

That's a tough one because they are voiced differently.
I have the jvm1, and had a SL5 for a few days.

But anyway look at it like this, you never have to go past 4 gain on the jvm, while the sl5 can use 10.
So that's my answer. 4 = 10

Hi Kurtz,

IMHO those amps are two different animals.
The JVM1 is a distortion monster.
Pros: great saturation and full sound on the OD channel. Best distortion you can get out of such a small amp. Shred paradise.
Cons: the heavy saturation is on the expense of dynamics, plus You can't dial it to play vintage OD tones - only modern.
The cleans are pretty basic - nothing to write home about (this amp is not built for that).

The SL5 - I didn't own it - only tried it once.
I remember that it was pretty classic.
It had a very nice OD channel and cleans.

If I were you, I would have waited for the Mini Silver Jubilee which should deliver cool blues and classic Marshall rock tones.

Thanks!

I have JVM1 and gain on 4 it's a lot of distortion.
I would like to buy SL5, but I wasn't sure whether a similar gain range is available.

JVM1 distortion is great but comes with a lot of compression. I would think the SL5 would be more open sounding and more versatile. Really an Apple and Orange comparison.

Yeah, I never pass 2 on my JVM :P

After 4, I don't think that I can something with that much gain.

Yeah. 2-2.5 is about where I set mine and I like gain. Haha
