JTM 45 THW

Postby Rojo » 22 Jan 2018, 21:22

Ok looking for a opinion on tbe Marshall.JTM 45 handwired , it doesnt seem like a popular amp from what i have read , i currently have a 1959 HW which sits proudly on top of a 1960 AHW cab , and a reissue 1962 bluesbreaker non handwired version , now i am keen on the JTM 45 but one of these has to go to help finance it , i am thinking the bluesbreaker , though would i be just buying the same tone ? I also have a 2 x 12 1936 cab with vintage 30s speakers that the JTM could sit happily on.

The JTM45 THW is the best version I have heard. No, it will not be the same as your 1959 but not much different either.

For less money you could buy the Astoria Custom which would be much different than your 1959 and in my opinion sound better than a JTM45.

My recommendation is to look into an Astoria.

My personal preference. I think the JTM45 would be happier with Greenbacks rather than the Vintage 30's.

Yeah I kinda think the same , Vintage style Marshalls and greenbacks are a good match, anyway still interested in this amp , not cheap and its more expensive than my 1959HW that I don't know why , I guess they are cashing in on the fact it was Jim Marshalls 1st amp
The amp I have really always been keen on is the Two Rock Classic reverb but I just don't have 8k... and if I did I would want to be a full time working muso to justify that sought of spend

Well i did it, bought a new JTM45 THW that was on sale , it had been in the shop and everybody had seemed to overlook it , dont know why , most underated amp i have ever played , its a very clean sweet sound with a touch of compression / sag thanks to the tube rectifier , cant rave about this amp enough , i have it running through a 2x12 1936 vintage 30s cab or a 1960AHW cab , either way im happy ......
