I think that the tone stack component values can be changed to give you more of what you want. Iknow about 5 years ago I had a customers #1958 combo in my shop. When I got done changing out the original smoothing(filter) caps, I plugged it in and wondered why it sounded better than my #1974. My #1974 has all Phillips/Iskra caps and a way better output tranny than the stock one and all NOS glass. Turns out the Tone controls use different value caps and there's a few different values in the circuit as well. My amp now sounds like that old #1958. I do have a very old alnico Rola 12" in it that sounds amazing!

I almost bought one when I purchased my 2266c. The deal I got on the Vintage Modern was too good to pass up. No regrets. Still the 1974 is a great amp.
