Marshall 2555X Silver Jubilee 100W Discontinued

Postby surfnorthwest » 23 Oct 2017, 18:44

Well that didn't last long. Its official, the 100 watt 2555X has been discontinued. I talked with my friend at Sweetwater about it and he said they actually were discontinued early this year. Sweetwater still has many silver Jube cabinets left over for sale as many just bought the head without the matching cabinets. I offered him $1000 for a A/B cab and he is seeing if he can pull it off as they really want to move them out.

FWIW, he said the smaller Jubes were not selling well either and they would not be ordering more. That is pretty surprising given all the requests Marshall got to have these Jubes made in lower watt heads and combos. I thought they would sell well because they sound pretty darn good.

I thought the 2555x was a great amp, I got one from Marshall's NAMM display and really like it. Just another Bletchley made amp in the history books now.

That's too bad!!! Great amp. I ordered one the day it was announced because i wasnt willing to wait and see if it was a limited run or not. I missed it in 1987 and the slash in 1996. I kept seeing posts on the marshall Facebook page saying "it's not discontinued, just not available in the US right now." So much for that!

Well, speaking of the Mini Jubilee and expanding on that design, that blows my thoughts on how they could've moved forward. That's surprising to me that amp is not selling. I love mine.

I guess the brand is getting more obscure as time moves on. Too much competition and getting beat on the playing field by other companies has really taken it's toll.

I have played with a bunch of guys who are way younger than i am. And all of them initially were not too interested in my 6100's, they were more of the Mesa/Blackstar/ENGL persuasion until i fired it up and let their ears show them the truth. The usual generic responses are along the lines of " who modded that AMP?" "I didn't know Marshall's could do metal" "wow this thing can handle dropped A tuning".

Somewhere along the way Marshall's became obscure to the younger crowd.

Simply a marketing failure. Jim Marshall knew how to market his product and knew how to listen to his customers. Today when I visit the Marshall booth at a trade show they couldn't care less. Most there are simply reps from the distributor.

Yes! a marketing failure. But there are some places in internet that always are speaking bad about Marshall. MG series did a lot of damage.

In my experience any company which starts making "lifestyle" products such as headphones is already too far gone to be saved.....

It's over.

Looking back, I don't think Marshall ever really challenged Mesa or, to some extent, Peavey, with a "high-gain monster" amp that the Nu-Metal guys were using. It seemed that they continued to rest on their "core sound" while rock was moving away from that sound. Heck... Even Marshall guys like EVH, Blackmore, Lynch and DiMartini defected to other brands in the 90s.

These amps were great... but expensive. And no modern features i guess.
Why not come out with a 20watt version equiped with volume reduction down to 0.1watt? That is the volume lvl bedroom players need...
other than that, there is a market out there... other manufacturers do well cooying marshall... so marshall has no excuse, they should do well if they had the right management and strategy
