Fair price for a used 2555x

Postby Dave W » 03 Oct 2019, 17:29

Came across a local sale for a 2555x- the re-issue and a 2551a cab. Asking $1600 for both.

The cab sustained shipping damage with a repair that sounds done well. The caba had a crack about 10 inches long on one tap corner and looks fine on the outside with a line where the split was and some matching grey pain on the tolex, looks ok. The corner was fixed with screwes on the outside and glue then tolex re-applied and inside with a block of baltic birch with screws and glue.

Both look clean. Do not really want the cab as V30s' are not my thing but it does match. I asked about amp/head onluy price and said $1300. I doubt if he will sell the cab separate for the other $300 if I ask. The seller knows the cab is an issue and charging mainly for the head.

To me $1300 is too much for the head. I would prefer around $1000 but not budging on price at this time. I also have a 2 hour 105 mile drive each way but willing to do it for a decent price.

What do you think is a fair cash price for buyer and seller for a clean 2555x head? Thank you!

Thank you!

The seller and I worked it out and I drove the 2 hours and over 100 miles each way. I just bought the 2555x and 2551a cab for $1550 total. My wife is a little pissed and says I am a comlpulsive liar( I am all set with gear now and this is the last amp I am buying) and that I have a serious addiction. lol.

The seller was cool and he bought the cab damaged and repaired it well and showed me everything. You cannot tell from a couple feet away. I cranked the clean channel with low notes on the neck humbucker and no cab buzz.

The head looks nice.Just a couple light scuffs and a couple of very light scratches in the silver back panel. Very clean.

I checked and it has the correct speakers. Has some Ruby China EL34s' and Marshall label China 12ax7s'. Just played it for a few minutes and was surprised at how good the cleans sound. I have never played a Jub before. I was surprised how damn aggressive and articlulate the rythm channel is. This amp will be fun to play.

Just opened it up and see that the choke was changed from stock to a Classic Tone brand one. Correct part number.

I will try and post some pics soon.

$1550 for the head AND cab, that is a great deal, i paid almost as much for a mint head. Congrats. It's a good amp. Really cuts through on leads.

Thanks! I debated over spending the money and had moved on after a few days but the seller texted back to see if I was still interested and we worked it out.

The cab clearly took a massive hit. I opened it up last night and saw all the previous damage. It was repaired as good as I would do it though. One corner with baltic birch ply in one corner to stabalize it and some screws from the inside and outside. Tolex pulled back in place and glued back down and little grey pait along the tolex split. It is actually not as bad as it sounds. No buzzing. Its strong and has the correct stock speakers. Just has the history and of course the cab resale value will be low if I tried selling but plan on keeping it till I die and once the head sits on top no body will see anyway.

The head is in great shape.

Thanks. I really like it. Just got a NOS Marshall correct channel footswitch of store off Ebay although its probably going to stay parked on the drive channel. Also just ordered some new EL34L's. Already had extra pre-amp tubes and also a set of KT77's too when I have time.

Play with the non-drive channel, it has one of the nicest sounding low level overdrives you can get. I really like it.
