1988 Marshall 2550, JCM 50/ 25W

Postby surfnorthwest » 30 Aug 2009, 18:56

What do any of you know about this amp, it is for sale and pretty rare. I have never seen or heard one before. The third rocker switch turns it from 25 watts to 50 watts.

From what info I can find it appears to be a Silver Jubilee amp in traditional cosmetics. Very cool. What's the asking price?

That's a Silver Jubilee allright. I think after the "Silver Jubilee" year ended they continued making the amp as a Custom JCM800.
So it's the same amp and if u can get it for a decent price .. GO FOR IT.

The amp looks very collectable that is why I am asking. I absolutly have no need for another amp. The amp is being offered for $1800, which I think is pretty fair. I am really interested in the 25/50 switch.

Are Jubes seriously worth that much ? They are cool and all, but take the whole slash hype outa the picture and what do you have left.

I think that John Frusciante has pretty serious tone and he uses Jubs. It's the only other marshall amp I would consider apart from VM. Jub has the tone IMHO.

Well, u got a hot-rodded JCM800 which sounds pretty good to me .... I love mine, both the JCM800 2203 and the Jubilees.
I agree that the Slash angle probably is a tad done at this point, but I don't think the Slash stamp of approval is the reason the amps are expensive.
It's just a great amp and there is just not a lot of them out there ...

In the nineties I knew a guy who had 2 Jubilee half stacks & a Les Paul Custom. No effects. Perfect tone.

100watt Jubilees usually go for $1500-2000 for just the head, 50 watters like this $900-$1400. I think $1800 is a little much.

I know this because I've been wanting the 50watt and 100watt amplifiers for many, many, many years and it was litterally a toss up between this and my VM and I finally chose the 100watt VM because it was $974 shipped to my door.

And its a Jubilee not a Silver Jubilee, Silver Jubilees are Silver, very misleading to call a black Jubilee Silver.
Amplifiers: Marshall 2555x 100watt Silver Jubilee Full Stack with matching 2551AV & 2551BV 8x12 70 watt Vintage 30 speakers.
Marshall 2466 100watt Vintage Modern w/ Matching 425A cab
1966 Fender Bandmaster
Effects: MXR:M234 Analog Chorus, Phase90, Slash Octave Fuzz, Slash SC95 Wah. BOSS: RV-3 & DD3 Reverb & Delay, GE-7 EQ,NS-2 Noise Suppressor, CS-3 Compression Sustainer
Guitars: 6 Les Pauls with Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 Pro Pickups.

Dude, you scored your VM for under a grand? :clap Awesome. I trolled and trolled for mine but everything from eBay to private sales all came in at a $1k or more when they were new/mint cond.

Non hijack comment: I think the Jub's are super-cool units but just not my flavor at the end of the day. Buddy of mine had one way back in the day and he LOVED it... he plays F'n Peavey combos now and lost all amp-stature but we won't go there ha ha ha ha

I wanted more muscle w/less 'plink' when I did comparisons on the Marshalls I could get my hand and ears on back then and went with a 30th Anniversary and then the JCM 800 2203. Now that I have the VM my stable should be good for a while! That price does seem awfully stout for the head pic'd at the top of the thread man, thing being if you dropped that bread today how would your chances fare for recooping it when & if you decided to sell it off down the road? I hardly ever acquire amps with the intention of selling and almost always keep what I score unless I get plain bored with it so, unless I demoed this and it totally blew me away, I'd probably walk based on the price... cool as it is though :dunno

I personally wouldn't pay $1800 for it. Jubilee's go on eBay all day for $1300-1500. There's one on there right now Buy It Now for $1400. There's a Jubilee FULL stack for $1800 right now. In my experience even though they are rare, they are not as sought after as the silver ones. People like the Silver Jubilee for its looks as well as sound. There was a black Jubilee on eBay about 6 months ago that sold for around $1100, I know because I bid on it. $1800 is way out of range in my opinion. Just 0.02.
