VM 2266 demo - Cabinet edition

Postby gtrman » 22 Sep 2009, 14:05

Well what could I do next ... :Stir
I thought it would be interesting to try the 2266 with all my cabinets.
Same guitar and same volume setting. Amp settings pretty basic.

Close call between the G12C & the good old 1960A cab for me.

Great video. Really shows the diference cab & speaker choice makes. I know I used to take that part for granted.

Really am surprised how bad the 1936 sounded. Mine sounds much better with the Classic Lead 80s in it.

that must have been a fair PITA movin all those cabs in n out!!! with all those cabs im suprised theres not a G12H30 in sight either!! IIRC theres 3x v30 cabs and 2x g12t75 cabs!

Great job tho!! this vid should be stickied in the speakers and cabinets section!! and a link to it in the FAQ cos there is always someone askin what speakers suit the VM!!

After the first listen it was between the 425A with g12cs and the slash 1960 with V30s. so i went back and listened again carefully and IMO the 425a wins by far!! sounds much better IMO!! V30s dont have the same mids. good tone from the V30s but i just prefer the G12Cs and their heavenly mids!! :laugh

before i bought my 4x12 greenback cab i was on the verge of gettin a V30 2x12 and now im glad i didnt!!

Thanks for postin!
Everybody seems to think i'm lazy.

Great Vid! It confirmed what my prefernece in Speakers for the Vm and other Marshall's also. I really gravitate towards Greenbacks most of the time, but also like a good set of old broken in Gt-75's in a 1960 also. I tried V30's for quite awhile and could just never quite get into them.

exellent vid, it's rated 5 stars, because of the good quality and exactly what I should have seen before i purchased my 425A

it's a brite/bright cab, and on my guitars without tone knobs, they are brite already

but heygh, it's about that vid - EXCELLENT- you must have spent several hours setting this up - DRITBRA INNSATS

Well I figured I should do a little "community" service since I have gotten tons of good advice from other members here.
And yeah this is the kind of video I would have liked to see before I got my VM.
It was quite a physical job as well lifting those cabs in & out. Some of them up and down stairs as well ... got a pretty good workout out of it!

As far as the cabs go most of them sounds a lot better in person. The G12T-75 has a lot more punch than gets picked up by the mic.
The Vintage 30's sounds a little flat in the video but playing them they sounds nice and smooth.
The Fender cab is a custom-made extension cab I have for my Vibro King and is not really supposed to be used on it's own.
I would love to get my hands on a G12H30 cab.. but than again I figure I have enough cabs for now !
I actually have 2 more 4x12's .. A 1960B and the Carvin Legacy Bottom which I didn't include in the video as it would have been redundant.

The 425A is the winner here in my opinion ... I do feel I get the best tone out of that one and I can see why it's the matched cab.

Awesome job! I have been searching the net to try and find a fair comparison between V30's, Greenbacks, and my current cab (1960B)! I also have a 2266, and was thinking my 12t-75's sound lifeless. This video test confirms that the Greenbacks make the amp sing more. Although, I vote the 1960 cab as second place. I was surprised at how similar the 1936 cabs sounded to their 4x12 counterparts!

Thanks for a great comparison using the same settings that I always use! :yea

Omg i never thought I would become a Tone Junkie but I am now i want to try everything (and i decided I'm Young and don't have to pay for anything but guitar gear yet so now is the time) and I'm really thinking about buying some V30's for my 2266C.
