Didn't Trout make his name playing in John Mayall's band in the mid-80s? Think so. I hope he becomes better known in his homeland. I'm not his personal evangelist or anything - I'm not a big Blues guy - but that clip is representative of his hard-workin' road warrior sound. He's been flying that flag since the days when it was pretty much only SRV and Gary Moore and that's it.

Trower is well respected by those in the know in England but less often than should be the case. :dunno I think his profile is higher in the US where he gets namechecked by players like Paul Gilbert and Fender a lot. And this forum.

Apologies for going off-topic.

You're right. Trout is an absolute monster on blue chops. He can put a whoopin on anything Stevie ever though about or Jimi. He's to SRV type blues what Yngwie is to shred. He'll rip ANYONE'S head clean off. Problem for me id that much of it isnt melodic to my ears. It doesn express pain well, beauty, wisdom, etc. Its just rip your head of blues lick shred. Sounds great for a few minutes. Afterwards, my mind is off somewhere else. Nothing agin Walter, He deserves his due as the baddest ass blues shredder on the planet. Love Walter Trout!

Well, I'd rather listen to Trower but that isn't to diss WT as he seems to be an admirable trooper of the live scene and the blues isn't my thing at best.

It's really hard to square that circle of shred and feel. How many have really pulled it off? Hendrix, EVH, not many others. I shred at home for fun but would run screaming from listening to a Malmsteen or Vai album.

Right on. Or better yet, listen to Frank MMcLaughlin if you want a different spin on Jimi & Trower! LOL
