Vintage Modern doing Metal

Postby spiderjazz » 02 May 2009, 08:53

Hi guys,

I have a clip here of my first gig with the VM, I'm mega happy with her for the sound I'm looking for. Best example of being able to hear the guitar tone on its tone is right at the start where its just the VM playing the sustaining chords with the drums, the rest of the track has a peavey xxx as well. Sound isnt great but sounded awesome in person. Some more tracks with the VM on my account as well

Very nice sound! :clap Once again a great prove that Vintage Modern can also do metal well! I assume you are the one playing with Ibanez RG, great playing too! :Thumbs

That's me alright, cheers! Yeah, really there's no problem playing Metal with the VM, I throw a boost on for some sections but I will run it without any fx a lot of the time. I have blackouts in this guitar going into it which push it hard on the input which definitly gives me more gain, once you get the master volume up then it really starts singing. And man does it cut through a mix! I have a 5150 as well and I'm playing with a lot less gain on the VM than with the 5150, really is punchy enough to get away without it! I must try and get some more recorded clips of it with better sound!

Constantly messing around with settings but I think they were roughly

Master 1:00
Pres 11:00
Bass 2:00
Mid 5:00
Treble 11:00
Hi Dynamic
Mid off
Detail 3.00
Body 1.30

The cab wasnt great, I think it was an avt or an mg cab, my normal cab is a 1960 with a v30/g12t75 x pattern that has been sealed on the side and rewired.

I had blackouts in the ibanez running into a boss sd-1 which was set up as a slightly dirty boost.
