Paul Gilbert live with the Vintage Modern

Postby SteveD » 14 Jul 2007, 05:07

Some live Paul Gilbert clips with the Vintage Modern here.

The quality obviously depends on what was used to record them i.e. some of them are just people's mobile phones and of course Youtube's streaming bandwidth etc. but I think you can get the idea.

another clip of paul using the 2466. But it seems like its said he uses 2266 combos

I used to find his tone v unappealing, until lately i found such raw tones coming on that i find it so nice!!! Of course now i know wats the secret

This is a very old clip and Vintage Moderns weren't even a glint in my eye at that time.

Paul owns a 2266C and on tour plays 2266s/425As or 2266Cs depending on what he's going to be playing material wise. He likes the tight bottom end of the head and 4 x 12 for his older stuff but for his newer stuff he prefers the combo.

I'd say not, just pushing the pre-amp hard. That is a guess....

Awesome player and all, but when he rolls back on the volume it's poo. Strats all the way!!!

I read in the latest GuitarPlayer magazine that paul uses pedals to boost his VM.

Here's a quote. "I like to get a Malcolm Young AC/DC tone and then boost it using an overdrive"

It also lists the pedals he uses. (OCD pedals for overdrive)

The amp in that particular clip looks like an MG or AVT to me, not a 2466. Sounds good though.

Loved it. I sure do miss Mr. Big. Think they will ever get back together?

I've seen him using an Xotic RC or AC Booster in other videos with the Vintage Modern. He's one of my favorite players.

Paul is on tour right now with two 2266Cs. Here he is jamming 'Hey Joe' with Greg Howe who is plugged into the spare one.

I was going to post that one and you beat me to it!!!! Paul's tone is so good no matter what he plays through, but I don't remember him ever having so much to say about any particular amp until the Vintage Modern. I wonder what Greg Howe's opinion is after playing through one.
