NAD! CODE50

Postby jrphatstrat » 18 Apr 2017, 19:41

:headbanger So I finally pulled the trigger on a CODE 50! Very pleased with this purchase. I've been fighting with my fender blues jr lately and decided I needed a backup amp, so I saw this and you can't beat the price! So I took it home and after tweaking the presets to my liking, I think it is going to replace the blues jr! I really dig the bluesbreaker model, that is where it's at for me. I'd love the chance to try one of the bigger models, but they are not available in North Carolina right now. I'd like to hear what other people's favorite settings are.

Glad you like it. I would not worry about other peoples settings as your guitar with your pickups will not always sound the same. The CODE is meant to be tweaked to what you want, everything from real heavy to classic is in it.

Oh yeah, I'm just curious as to what mixes and matches of preamp and power amp settings.

I just got my footswitch today. Pretty clever little accessory! I have found I like to leave it on a preset and use it in "switch mode". So far my go to setup is one I've customized. It's the bluesbreaker preamp and power amp model but into a 1974cx cab. I've found that with almost all of these models, they sound better live through the 1x12 cabinet model. The 4x12 models make it sound like it's under a blanket. I understand the bad reveiws for these amps, if you don't tweak them yourself they sound rough. Too much noise gate and resonance on just about every factory preset. However for someone like me, obsessed with tweaking tone but on a budget, it's perfect. I am very pleased with the tones, much better than the fender mustang or the line 6 I used to have. I would go as far as to say Marshall so far have been the only company to make a good marshall amp model. Hopefully soon we will get to see the 100's in my neck of the woods.

Just wondering if you are planning to replace the stock speaker? Ive found that with these modeling type amps, the stock speaker tends to be a weak point. I have put a veteran 30 speaker into a few other 1x12 amps in the past and it made a big difference. In fact, I just got a Blackstar ID60 and even though the stock speaker is surprisingly decent, I may A/B it with my trusty Veteran 30 that I have had for a while now :)
