Ok guys. After repeated attempts at trying to get a decent tone demo out of the line out I can't vouch for this feature on the amp. At least not with my setup. I ran through several different ways of going about it. Even as simple as line out to mixer to monitors without an interface (Helix) just for a basic sound reference. Doesn't do justice. This is not a big deal for me. My Helix stomps all over this for modeled tone but I wanted to try it for the guys that might be on the fence about this amp. I never really planned to use this function and it continues my thoughts on experiences with line outs. Others may have better results. I love the amp for its main purpose though which is amplifying a guitar and its a winner in that role.

I'm going to plan B. I have a Radial JDX DI I used to use a few years ago when the 50ths were new and I patched them through my home PA system that way. It worked great then. I'm trying this next when I have the house to myself and can spend some time with it cranked at full power. The Radial should work much better and it will also allow me to use all the controls on the head that are not available using the built in DI.

I think the emulted out is first and foremost to be used into a mixer/PA.

If using it for recording it is always going to sound harsh or raw if not using sort of cabinet simulation.

Solution.

1. Download 2 Notes Torpedo Wall of Sound suite to use in your DAW. Fucking great software. With it you assign a cabinet and select the virtual mic to use and assign it to your raw guitar track.

2 Buy the 2 Notes load box or their CAB pedal.

I agree but i was just looking to do some guys a favor here concerning the amp and its line out. Not a deal breaker for me at all. I'd bought it even if it didn't have it. Besides, I thought the line out was done by soft tube and the simulation was supposed to be a miked 4x12 1960.

Update:

As per my experience with the DSL1, I am finding myself gravitate more to the Classic Gain channel over the Ultra Gain channel. The Ultra side sounds great mind you but it can get to Metal so easily. Right now for my playing moods I'm just not into that kind of gain. It's kind of like the wind so.....but as others have noted on previous DSL's the Classic Gain channel is special with it really cranked. Yesterday I had the Master on 10 with the Preamp adjusted to taste from 5 to 10 but mostly in the higher ranges. Playing my Les Paul and boosting this channel with a TS9 and Crybaby Wah. X4 Flashback Delay in the loop and Vintage 30 1x12. This had a great Classic Rock sound that wasn't so over the top with the Preamp up. Back the Preamp down a bit and I liked this for a Bluesy Les Paul guitar sound. This is a pretty damn good combination that could cover a lot of ground. I'm betting this combined with the Mini Jubilee's rhythm clipped channel could make a great pair to just use your volumes and a simple boost.

It's a toss up really. The Ultra side honestly doesn't need a boost but I like using a boost just if for no other reason than the slight EQ change it gives. It's a habit that is hard for me to break but the Classic side just gobbles up what you put into it. I even like it at very low volumes as well. It won't have near the gain on tap using just a Tubescreamer but it's enough and is a nice alternative to the insane distortion i sometimes try to get at low volumes just for the sustain. I hadn't used my TS9 in a long while but working this simple combination brought me back to my old JCM800 days when this was all I had and it worked!!

Well since you're having so much fun with the new DSL 20, you've made me dust down the 2012 DSL1H to revisit it.

Why have I not used this amp more often?
If the new 1w sounds as good as this, what a fantastic home recording rig.

Here I'm using it on 0.1w straight into the Blubox speaker emulator set to a Classic 80.

Nice Strat tones.

Haha! Glad you got yours out. I can hear the slight differences versus the new one. It's not a huge difference but it is noticeable just the same.
