So here is the thing
we are 3 guys in a band 1 Guitar 1 Bass 1 Drum and guitar and bass both do some vocals.
we really want gigs but for that we need demos but we don't have money to go to an expensive recording studio every time we need a demo.
so our idea is to buy some basic recording equipment that is not very expensive to make some basic demos (and have fun recording anytime we want).
I Have a friend who is really good with computers and all sorts of technology and he'll probably figure out how to do the software thing so that's a big problem solved but we don't have anything but a laptop, 2 sm-58 mics and some cables.
So i was wondering do you guys know some basic stuff to help us make a listening worthy demo.
And if you know some basic techniques for placing mics (especially on the drums i have no idea what's really necessary and what mics could be missed since the drums on Led Zeppelin's when the levee breaks was recorded with just 2 mics right?
BTW we want to record the Instrumental in 1 take and then record the vocals to it, we don't care if it sounds kinda crappy if it get's better that this it it's worth it

I already know we'll probably need:
A mixing board
*A mic For vocals but we already have 2 sm-58s
2 Mics for bass and guitar (sm-57???)
# Mics For Drums (Maybe use the mic stands we have for overheads since we won't use em to sing)
#cables
Did I miss something???
thanks allot for reading.
