Re: Converting Marshall pedal to take guitar lead

It's very simple - you just need a normal jack, the black plastic type Marshall use is ideal and keeps it looking stock :-), and you can get them easily from Maplins etc. Cut the original cable on the inside as close as possible to the chassis clamp, and pull the outer covering off which will give y...

Re: Thinking of changing my indicator light to red

No, my whole point is that an extra light could reduce confusion to players who don't know the technical stuff about their amps. Imagine this typical scenario - - which I'm sure has happened to a lot of us (including me) - you're at a gig, you plug in your guitar, and... no sound comes out of your a...

Re: Golden Dragon KT66 - Steve D help requested

"Always check the part" I once worked on an AC30 where someone had replaced all the 100-ohm screen resistors (which occasionally burn out) with 100Ks... the amp worked, but sounded very odd and put out about a watt fully cranked :-). I don't know if they got the wrong resistors by accident or just m...

Re: Thinking of changing my indicator light to red

No, it just means the power is on! (And the filament circuit is working.) To tell whether the Standby is on as well, you have to be able to see the faint blue glow in the power valves. This is not that easy, and a lot of players don't know what to look for anyway, even if it didn't mean having to go...

Re: Thinking of changing my indicator light to red

Actually the metal toggle switches are not tougher than the plastic rockers. You see a lot of old Marshalls with replaced toggle switches due to the toggle shaft breaking off - it's much more common on the plastic-toggle switches from the early 70s of course, but it does happen on the metal ones too...

Re: External Bass Guitar causing crackiling through 2466!

Try removing the back panel and gently knocking on the valves with your knuckle with the amp running but no guitar signal. It's possibly a microphonic valve responding to the increased amount of low end in the sound from the active bass - more likely a power valve than preamp. If it's not that, try ...

Re: what are these?

They are torroidal coreless chokes. A typical application would be high-power speaker crossovers.

Re: Thinking of changing my indicator light to red

I don't like the two black switches or the purple light either... it's just 'not Marshall' (in my opinion). But rather than changing the indicator light to red (which I did think of), and given that you can't fit JMP-style toggle switches, how about changing the power switch to a JCM-style illuminat...

Re: I just could not resist...

I could be wrong, but I thought that EV had discontinued all their guitar speakers, hence why Mesa no longer offers them. The speakers are critical to the volume of Mesa amps - they've always fitted about the most efficient ones they can, unlike Marshall. In fact, speaker efficiency is more importan...

Re: Class 5 at bedroom volume secret

Just for interest, when I had my Studio 15 (which also has this internal dummy load and headphone jack feature), I wired the headphone jack so that the tip was hot as normal and the ground was connected to the *ring* connection, not the ground - with no connection to the actual ground. (This require...

Re: Class 5 at bedroom volume secret

When the switch is set to headphones, you don't need a load - there's an internal dummy load. So if you fit the combo speaker with a cable with a plug on it, you can plug it either into the extension speaker jack (for normal speaker operation, it doesn't matter that it's labeled as an extension) or ...

Re: DSL impedance

If you're getting signal from the 4-ohm output, the switch is most definitely working! The problem is if it *stops* working... :-) If you're at all concerned, try this: playing at low volume, with the amp and cab set to 4 ohms, try plugging a spare cable into the 16-ohm jack - very gently, and not a...

Re: DSL impedance

That's good. Finally, if you're going to use it at 4 ohms - try both combinations anyway, and see which you like the sound of best - it's a good idea to occasionally use the 16-ohm jack on the amp: just plugging a cable into it and take it out again is all that's needed, the amp doesn't even need to...

Re: Low Volume playing - attenuation

**Be careful.** I just did a search on 'the little sucker' on Ebay, and this is what I found... "Boutique Guitar Products 'The Little Sucker' Attenuator - New condition. This thing works great to drive your amp tubes for Killer TONE at any volume. Just plug your 'preamp output' into the 'Little Suck...

Re: I just could not resist...

Be very careful about cranking that amp up full in the 100W mode, especially pushed with a pedal. (6 on the Master Volume may well be full power, by the way.) It's a 100W amp with a 90W speaker, and even though Celestions are tougher than some other speakers that's pushing it. Mesa discontinued this...
