Re: VM AND AFD 100?

I think Slash re-tubed some of his Jubilees with KT88's for cleans. He didn't use KT88 tubed Jubilees for distorted tones. He used KT88s in all his Use Your Illusions Tour Jubilees! Clean and Distorted heads and later heads (1996+) he went back to EL34s for his distorted tones mostly because his ne...

Re: VM AND AFD 100?

So, I am curious - how potentially redundant do you think the VM and AFD heads would be? I have a VM but, I have to say, the power scaling aspects of the AFD (as well as overall GAS for something a little more 'modern' sounding) has me wondering if it might be worth a plunge. Prior to thinking abou...

Re: Just made a quick video clip of my #36 clone

The only dist pedal i would even consider using is the Zvex box of rock. It's the only one out there who's able to sound like a cranked plexi. I've tried a lot of pedals and they all tend to sound too sterile for my taste. Sounds effin' g...

Re: Slash with afd official

Yeah, I understand that. But with all of their resources I think it should nail the tone a bit better. Us people at the metro forum's afd mod nails the afd/sweet child tone way way closer than the afd10 sample posted yesterday. oh well. I agree, my VM always sounds like my VM no matter the settings...

Re: Modded Marshall Super Tremelo history lesson

From everything I have ever seen, the EQ was in the loop. But you never know! Slash denies using his effects loops ever in the Gibson and AFD100 videos...except for when he requires a delay in certain situations, and its only for the delay. And deffinitly now days he is currently throwing everythin...

Re: Modded Marshall Super Tremelo history lesson

No doubt he has had some good looking guitars, but out of all I like this one the best. It is one of his USA prototypes. Of course they never produced one of his signature guitars with a top like this. This might be my favorite top I have ever seen. Taken at a VR show. Yes, it's a prototype to the ...

Re: Modded Marshall Super Tremelo history lesson

Does the #34/AFD option on the AFD100 mean that it goes from a 2203 to #34 specs? Or does it mean it goes from #34 to AFD specs? If it is the former, it seems a little weird because #34 was not used on the album. No? It goes from AFD to #34 tone. #34 is included for the UYI tone, etc. Yup, so you c...

Re: Modded Marshall Super Tremelo history lesson

It was a 100w Super Tremelo (1959T). Slash rented it from Studio Instrument Rentals (SIR) in Los Angeles for recording AFD. It was the most requested Marshall head they had in their inventory (SIR rental model #39), and they had to constantly fend off pro players who wanted to buy it. George Lynch ...

Re: Marshall: AFD100 Will be a limited run of 2300 Units :(

What i know is that The #39 was the one that Slash used for the rehearsals (the one that he tried to steal) At a later stage (when he was about to record the overdubs for the album with the Derrig) he again requested the #39 , but it wasn't available at the time, so S.I.R gave him the #36 modded by ...

Re: Slash on the Grammys (and his playing lately)

The guitar playing on Appetite was awesome, i contribute that to both of them.. But you can easily hear the difference between the two, Izzy goes for the less distorted tone, not clean, but not really that saturated either, whereas slash cranked his amp on "ten" all the way, together with a more agg...

Re: Examples of 80's bands that used JCM 800s and 900s

Iron Maiden used JCM800s since their first self titled album in 1980 (Obviously JMP2203/4 since the JCM range didn't exist in 1980) They used Gallien Krueger amps for the Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son albums, but after that they switched back to JCM800's again. Now, Adrian Smith uses the 30th an...

Yeah Kissfan, he really stinks lately, I mean just check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHyl04-ytH8 He's gotten really horrible. hehe I couldn't resist. The first time I watched this I almost pissed myself laughing. But seriously, I do agree with you. Watch this example: http://www.youtub...

Re: Power Attenuators.... whats your experence?

If anyone wants to trade a Power Brake for a THD let me know! I'd like to try one to see how it sounds vs he PB100. Get the UA (Ultimate Attenuator) , its expensive as fuck, but its THE most transparent Attenuator out there.. Obviously, if you attenuate more than -16db its going to sound different ...

Re: New 100W amp with Slash's help???

Got this from his twitterpage today (his profile is "slashhudson") : @jamesstu22. Its based on the Marshall JCM 800 I used to record "Appetite for Destruction" (In reply to @jamesstu22) So there you have it, its an amp based on the infamous #39 amp from S.I.R I thought the #39 amp was a Marshall 195...
