The Fatboost is a great pedal but was never meant to be a pedal for lead boost. I use one only to fatten up my Tele. I would search out a clean overdrive.

Should buy a small sheet of tolex and spray glue it to your board, it wouls look much better.

A JCM 800 is a totally different beast and I would say the eq is more responsive. But it really depends on what 800 you are talking about becasue there were so many different models. I love the early 2203s but I think the VM is way more flexible than any 800.

In the year I have had my amps I have come to the conclusion that great tone with these amps starts with great pickups. To my ears a bad or the wrong pickup can really cheat you on what the amp can delive...
