shake, rattle and roll

Hi All, I've not posted for a long time and I realised yesterday it had been 2 years since I had last used my class 5 (sometimes work can do this!!!). What a saddo I must be. I'd previously replaced the Marshall EL84 with a NOS Mullard 'Blackburn' tube and the ECC83s with some Ei ones that I had ava...

Re: I too tried a Class 5 today

Hi all,
agreed, this is too good an amp to let it fail. Come on Marshall, listen to your user base here.

Re: Idea to Cure Tube Rattle in Combo Amp

Happy New Year to all,
All quiet because of the holiday period but alas, i don't think that they can totally cure the problem.

I Have now had thoughts about a 5 watt 2 x10 - given the bigger cabinet this might work extremely well!

Re: If you have a Class 5 that rattles...

Hi all and wishing you all a very Merry Christmas. From I all that I can see with the 'mod' is that an amount of insulating material has been placed around the top panel so that it butts up tight to the cabinet. Yes, mine still rattles when pushed hard! I think that the amp has 2 major design flaws:...

Re: Marshall Class 5 - revalve

The units are built to a cost. The tubes that are fitted are ok (they appear to be JJ tubes and I liked the unit 'out of the box' so to speak) but I thought that they could be bettered. Fitting different tubes is a matter of personal taste, I think that an old stock Mullard EL84 has given the Class ...

Marshall Class 5 - revalve

I have just taken the plunge and revalved my Class 5 with 2 x Ei ECC83 (Yugoslavian) and a Mullard EL84 (made in UK) What a difference to the stock valves, I have fallen in love with my Strat all over again! As it seems louder and distorts sooner but now I'm not so sure about the standard speaker th...

Re: UK Class 5's rattle free?

My current one (amp no 3) does still appear to be rattle free. I would suggest that this is still a case of try before your buy (maybe I'm being over cautious)

Re: I cured rattle in my Class 5

Hi Pablues, I'm glad that you have sorted out your class 5. How much difference does the Vintage 10 make? I have thought about revalving mine with Mullards (assuming that I can lay my hands on some (not literally!)). However, would the amp need rebiasing and if so how can this be undertaken as I hav...

Re: CLASS 5 BAD RATTLES

Hi all, Not good to hear that another class 5 owner has a case of the 'rattles' but I still think the issue is the thinness of the chassis. Steve D - is it all possible that Marshall can show a simple method to us all of how to make the chassis more 'integral', where this be throught the use of some...

Re: CLASS 5 BAD RATTLES

I think you are right, a Class 10 would be a good idea. Years ago (dinosaur age!) when i was first playing I never wanted to buy a 'small' powered amp so even though I had the opportunity to buy small reasonably priced combo (Silver faced deluxe reverb or similar) at a rating of 22 watts it was neve...

Re: What's the hold up?

With all the discussion i think that that class 5 will be a huge hit in the US - first amp to stem back to UK blues revival in the UK??

It ain't a thrash amp but a true blues amp!
