Power tube distortion? Steve D

At what setting on the master volume of a 2466 are the power tubes being driven hard enough to be giving up that warm distortion? I understand that the VM has a post phase inverter master volume, Is the phase inverter valve the only power tube that produces distortion or saturation or do the other t...

Re: Getting an Allman Brothers tone.

Yes I am in HDR. I also found it pretty cool when I found a picture online of Warren Haynes amp settings and they were identical to the settings I had dialed in. He runs his master volume at 7 which I am hoping to do at tonight's gig. :yea

Re: Getting an Allman Brothers tone.

Thanks for the input. I have found that for me I found the ABB tones with the body and detail settings at 4, master at 5 , bass, treble and mid at 5, presence at 7, no reverb. Jeez my 2466 just opened right up!!!! Backing off the pre amps let me crank up the master more and I can really experience t...

Getting an Allman Brothers tone.

How would you guys go about setting up your VM to get a tone like Duane, Dickey, Warren, and Derek? What do you think are the key ingredients? What dynamic range, tone settings, and amount of gain do you think each guitarist uses? Any advice would be appreciated. I am trying to rethink my tone. I th...

Re: What happened?

I have not had a chance to take the amp to a tech yet but I turned it on at practice this week and it worked fine. I did not dare take the volume over 4. Its working good for recording purposes :pray but will have to get it looked at before going live again.

Re: What happened?

Thank you everyone for all the input. I will try and find the bad tube. I hope it is just a tube. Steve why do you think it is a preamp tube and not a power amp tube? Would'nt the amp have cut out at any volume when I cranked the body and detail? Do the preamp tubes get pushed harder when you crank ...

Re: What happened?

Thank you for the replies. The fuse was not blown. The amp turns on and the tubes all glow but there is no sound. The sound came out a little bit say half a minute or so then cut out. The sound came back after a minute or two the first two times it cut out and then no sound ever came back after the ...

Re: What happened?

Thanks for the reply Slash. I don't think it is the pot because usually you would hear some crackling and pop noises for a while before it went bad. I heard no such noises and the knob is pretty smooth ( not loose when its turned ).

What happened?

I've had my 2466 for about 3 months now and it has been working great with the master volume going no higher than 3 and my detail and body at 9. So at practice tonight I decided to try and dime the master volume with the body and detail still at 9 and see what kind of play my volume knob on my guita...

Re: VM and pickup height

Thanks for the input. This is a great board. I worked with it a little more today and I am going to be ok with the cleans being that low. Everything is just lower on the guitar now then what I was used to before but there is much more gain on tap now. I think I may look into the different pots and w...

VM and pickup height

I have been getting to know my new 2466 today and I know that it takes some time to get ones settings. This amp has alot of gain with my Gibson R8 in both ranges and I am finding that I need to turn my guitars volume knob really low ( 1 and a half) to clean up the sound completly. This does not give...

Re: Vintage Modern or a late 70's JMP MKII?

Thanks for the input. I'm glad to hear this as I just bought a 2466 and it will be here in one day. Would I be correct if I described the VM as being in the JTM 45 design and that the different ranges found in the original are now modernized with a footswitch or a push button so you do not have to p...

Re: Vintage Modern or a late 70's JMP MKII?

Thank you Steve. -- Tue Jan 26, 2010 5:43 pm -- Hey Steve I use a Gibson Les Paul R8. Will the amp clean up well in the high dynamic range using this guitar? I also have an American Strat but I'm not to worried about that cleaning up. Any hints for these guitars in each of the ranges? What can I exp...
