OH MAN.....

Walked into my local GC - they never have crap but seems like I need to go in there every 6-9 months just to make sure they don't have crap... Walked out with a YJM - I absolutely do not need amps like this (I have a VM also), as I play at home and not up on any stages. but for me, even at lower vol...

Re: VM AND AFD 100?

I saw that gig (I'm Norwegian) , it was an awesome fuckin' night! Slash's playing was very tight, but more imporantly, i scored an über-hot married chick in her mid 20's that evening as well, so it couldn't have been a better end to a fantastic evening :bgrin i have a hunch the husband might disagree

Re: LDR > HDR : boost problem?

who knows what he might be doing or what youtube might be masking - but there is a large difference in volume between LDR and HDR. there are many threads that talk about this on here - may even be some creative ways that others have dealt with it (ie to try and get some 2 channel-like functionality ...

Re: LDR > HDR : boost problem?

its not a problem - its the way the VM was designed. its simply not a 2 channel amp. i think of it as a single channel amp that happens to have two distinct voicings (dont know if thats technically the correct way to think about it but thats how i do).

Re: Class 5 vs 1974x

just returned a 1974x and have a Class 5. The 1974x is significantly louder (or at least 'sounds' louder - maybe the larger speaker/cab has something to do with it also).

Depending on how loud you can run in our house, it could break up....but its going to be loud.

Re: Well, I've Screwed Up Big Time....

Gentlemen (i use the term loosely in these parts:)), I am ecstatic to report that my 2466 and mid-80's 1960bx is back home in my guitar room - yes, my baby is home! I am only a hobbyist player (ie only at home when work allows) but i can honestly say i had problems sleeping (literally) until i secur...

Re: VM AND AFD 100?

would be great to get some firsthand reports. i guess one way to think about it is the Jub's will always be there - actually, i think so will the AFD (2300 is a lot to sell out of immediately at their price point) - so maybe, if i were going to go with one, it would make sense to try out the AFD (pr...

VM AND AFD 100?

So, I am curious - how potentially redundant do you think the VM and AFD heads would be? I have a VM but, I have to say, the power scaling aspects of the AFD (as well as overall GAS for something a little more 'modern' sounding) has me wondering if it might be worth a plunge. Prior to thinking about...

Re: Well, I've Screwed Up Big Time....

well, wish me luck...and i certainly appreciate all the advice....but im just going to try and get back my exact old rig....if i need to pay a couple hundred extra to do it fine (hopefully not excessively more)...ll chalk it up to a life lesson and chasing that 'holy grail' of tone. sometimes, just ...

Re: Well, I've Screwed Up Big Time....

many thanks guys! its nice, if nothing else, to be able to commiserate with those who can relate:) about the 2x12 notion (and not completely discounting the 4x12) there seems to be only 2 options form Marshall: - the recently discontinued 2061cx - and the (what i understand) less than optimal 1936 i...

Well, I've Screwed Up Big Time....

I had been using a 2466 and older 1960bx (that i purchased used). I only play at home and even though i was pretty satisfied with the '70's type tones I was getting I decided to downsize. Ended up going to a very classy 1974x that I use an OCD pedal with to get some overdrive at lower volumes. It ju...

Re: Hendrix et SRV

curious why you guys are recommending ab OD pedal rather than just increasing the preamp gain - not disagreeing, just very curious. most of the time i have seen people recommending OD pedals with the VM it was for higher gain (or for essentially a two channel amp). What is it about SRV's tone that y...

Re: 4 Noob Questions

RE: eq... i agree i have not seen a tremendous impact with tweaking these - except in one regard. I always had the middle and treble set higher than the bass knob. recently, what i have been doing is cutting the bass altogether (knob on zero) and getting whatever low end i want by adjusting the body...
