Re: Is Something Wrong w/ my VM

The fizz will go away once the speakers get broken in...usually a few months or a good week of jamming at above 6 on the master volume. New speakers usually sound like total shit when you first buy them then they drift into spec after a good romp. only problem is the 1960bx im running is a used cab...

Re: Is Something Wrong w/ my VM

well, the head definitely had problems. I A/B'd it with a new VM head thru the same cab and my head was a fraction of the volume. the new head was louder on 5 than mine on 10, for example. I got such a good deal offered on the new head, that i took that one home with me and returned the used head. S...

Re: Is Something Wrong w/ my VM

hey thanks a lot guys! slash, ill try your 'position' test tomorrow (a little too late now:)). dont get me wrong, i have no concerns about the VM getting loud enough - just since i bought it used, have never had any amp other than fender combos, and wasnt sure what to expect from the VM and a 4x12 I...

Is Something Wrong w/ my VM

I just got a used 2466 head and I am actually wondering if maybe the tubes need replacing or something... i know volume is a relative concept but i am actually surpised by how reasonable the volume is at home. I am running into a 1960bx cab, in the LDR...MV is at 5 (noon), detail at 7 (2 o'clock) an...

Re: G12C Voice

G12C Voice

I know that the g12c is a particular variant of the basic g12m...i did a search but am having a tough time with search words, etc. at any rate, in what ways is the g12c 'voice' different than the modern day g12m? is it more mid-focused, less emphasis on the highs? I THINK i remember somewhere that s...

Re: No more purple........eventually!

actually, this is somewhat topical for me. i am trying to find a 425a in black. i see some sites in the UK have it listed but i have not been able to find it as readily in the US. Does anyone know where/how I can get one? thanks! also, i am curious (perhaps steve?) how did it end up with purple orig...

Jimmy Page - "It Might Get Loud"

I was finally able to watch this on blu-ray. Thought it was pretty entertaining. The most interesting portion, I thought, was when Page was in some sort of storage room (guitar cases, amps, etc. all round) playing Ramble On unaccompanied. Even just by himself the tone was righteous - clean on the ne...

Re: Final Decision Time - Closer!!!

i was able to try a mesa 2x12 with v30's with the 2466. i was surprised by how much more bottom there was to the 2x12 when compared to the 425a. i dont know if it is the differnce in speakers, cab size, or construction but it was immediately apparent. does this sound expected to you guys? when i th...

Re: Final Decision Time - Closer!!!

most people prefer greenbacks with the VM, but i also read that the V30s can be slightly more forgiving tonewise if you have to keep the volume low. Agreed; I actually use both with mine. The top end sizzle of the Greenbacks is terrific with the VM, some of the harmonics of the VM sit perfectly the...

Re: Final Decision Time - Closer!!!

i am new to this whole mixing and matching heads and cabs, having only dealt with combos before....but could one option for me be to replace the v30's in the 2x12 orange cab with greenbacks if i wanted to down the line?? and if that is possible, i assume i would absolutely need to be using the 50w ...

Re: Final Decision Time - Closer!!!

orbis,

any chance you've also tried the head with the stock 425a cab and compare it to running the head with your v30s?

thanks
