Re: Jimmy Page - "It Might Get Loud"

Play this exact song on the VM all the time, with that same effect, although I achieve it slightly differently, due to I use a PRS not a LP. That songs has a lot of switching between various tones, and I do it just by switching pups and volume manipulation - never touch the amp or channel switch and...

Re: Tubes that will take some 'grind' out?

I have not been able to come up with a preamp tube which makes much difference. The difference that the different tubes makes is too subtle to make up for this. With regards to your point about the bass, yes, I have found that as well. For quite a while my settings were bass 0 (7 o clock), mid 3 (9 ...

Re: Tubes that will take some 'grind' out?

Thanks for the advice. I agree that vintage 30s smooth it out a bit, and that is a plus - but other than that, I personally hate the tone of vintage 30s and much prefer the greenbacks. I guess you could say I like the mid bump of the greenbacks. I will look into the KT66 recommendation though. That ...

Re: Tubes that will take some 'grind' out?

That's a good point. I haven't tried most of those, except the V30s and G12-75s. Didn't like either of those with this amp. I really like the greenback sound, to be honest, and I don't think the grind I am hearing is speaker breakup. It's most like a slight tinge of fuzz face type grind on top. I ha...

Re: Tubes that will take some 'grind' out?

Steve; That is exactly what I do, and that works fine, as far as the balance between lead (solo) and rhythm. That part works great, and I love being able to control everything with the volume knob. Perhaps my issue is better stated as 'when I dial in the tone I want/need for lead, it has a little to...

Tubes that will take some 'grind' out?

hey guys! Lately I've been getting a little bit unsatisfied with the tone of my Vm - basically, it is a little too 'grindy'. I find that there is a VERY narrow sweet spot between 'great plexi like tone' and 'enough gain for good soloing'. If I can't find that sweet spot, then I err toward solo-ing t...

Re: Best Boost for solos in my opinion

in my opinion was really simple. I used a Boss GE-7 last in the effects loop after all other pedals in the loop. Put the EQ in a frowny face and add just a touch of level increase on the GE-7. Solos cut through great w/o huge volume change. It's the mids that make the difference not the volume when...

Re: VM footswitch or not

Consider the Boss FS6 as well. Set one to latching and the other momentary, and it does the same thing, but with the added advantage that you now have an LED to tell you when reverb is on.

I went to the weber site a month or so ago, and it was not a great site, not very much information. perhaps I went to the wrong site?

Re: My Dilemma

BTW, I have 2 Avatar 2X12s with greenbacks (G12Ms), and love them. I use one at home and one at practice ( I have 2 VM heads), then when gigging I use both cabs. Works great.

Re: Amp Switching

Just a couple of notes to be aware of (may or may not apply to your particular situation): 1. The Voodoo Labs unit switches JUST the head, meaning that it assumes you have different cabinets for each head, or some sort of stero wiring for each head. 2. The Headbone switches both the amp and the cabi...

Re: Zeppelin not reforming or touring anytime soon.

I've got the entire O2 concert, as played, on DVD - some kind of bootleg. The bass does not come out very well level wise, but otherwise the sound is pretty good. I believe that there will be a DVD of this concert available eventually. The band played great. There are a couple of instances where Pag...
