Re: Bedroom volume options

Hi Guys I don't give any relevance to "the intended" application of an amp when assessing what might be done to the circuit to make it more useful to a given player. Frankly, I don't believe most players give "intended application" any weight either. The plexi was intended to be played loud and clea...

Re: Bedroom volume options

Hi Guys I think Marshall dropped the ball on this amp by not incorporating a master volume. They made the single biggest improvement over the tired Champ and its copies by adding another preamp tube - woo-hoo! This provides the extra gain needed to have really good and really smooth distortion sound...

Re: AFD100 Attenuation

Hi Guys The myth about speaker breakup is a hard one to overcome because almost no one ever experiences it. Loud sounds cause your hearing to protect itself and aurally compress the incoming sound (to your inner ear). What you _think_ you are hearing is an illusionary sound - not the real thing at a...

Re: advice needed - accidentally ran amp without load

Hi Guys The original poster likely had a speaker cable that shorted if the tubes actually red-plated. Otherwise, running an amp with an open load is not a real problem unless the amp is driven to clipping. This is a much worse condition if the load became open - i.e. was disconnected - while the amp...

Re: Amp In Storage

Hi Guys Powering up a stored amp _can_ be a problem if the filter caps are old. If the amp is relatively new and has been used regularly, then the caps should withstand a year unpowered. Electrolytics require regular application of voltage to stay healthy; twenty minutes a week is what we recommend....

Re: 3210 project

Hi Guys The 3210 was prone to reverb driver circuit fires. Yes - it will burn a hole through the PCB! The reverb drive circuit can be modified to assure stability, as it is self-oscillation that causes the device over-heating and eventual fire. The factory-recommended solution was to strap a 330R re...

Re: London Power Scaling

Hi Guys This is not a plug for Power Scaling, rather it is meant to set the technical record straight here, as this thread contains incorrect information. ANY tube amp can be Power Scaled. The current range of PS kits offered by London Power accommodate supply voltages up to 900Vdc in the Super Flex...
