Nice gear. Those 1987's are LOUD MoFo's.

Re: Just joined the VM Forum.

Yeah that's a Traynor YCS-100 on the left which is Traynor's version of the TSL100. The other amp is a rare 1972 Randall RG150 Alpha Hybrid. This was a really bad ass amp in its day. It is a solid state preamp with a 12AT7 phase inverter going to four 8417 power tubes. The 8417's were some of the la...

Re: Mick Ralphs and DSLs

I can remember BAD CO as one of the albums I listened to in 1976-77. Man that had an impact on me. We all get older and loose a little.

Played the TSL's since 2004. I still have a 122, 100 and 602. A very versatile amp.

Re: So I got some serious gas for a JCM800

I played TSL's since 2004, but last year I bought myself a 78 JMP 2203 and a 83 JCM 2204. Both amps were modded and recapped. The 2204 has both the 1987 and a hot rod 2204 preamps that are foot switchable with solo boost. Also has an extra 12AX7 so it has more gain than a stock 2204. The JMP is just...

Re: marshall dsl 401

I like my 401. At one time I had two set up differently. One for hot rod blues and the other for classic hard rock. Right now, I have a 2006 model with NOS RCA power tubes and all NOS preamp tubes, including a Amperex Bugle Boy in V1. The speaker is an Eminence ALNICO Red Fang. Great for small gigs ...

Re: DSL ruined from guitar cable connecting to speaker cab ?

The DSL is a proven design. Just keep in mind that this particular DSL was run balls to the wall with a power soak and a guitar cord feeding the cab. Hell, if I did that with my JMP 2203, it would do damage to that amp as well. This is just a case of someone using their "rig" improperly.

Re: Replicating Blackmore's Major tone on a JMP

Those Majors are ultra linear amps and really loathed a distorted signal hitting the phase inverter. I've heard all sorts of rumors about Ritchie's amps. I think the mod with an extra 12AX7 is true. The main thing is his sound was a pretty clean, snappy tone. My fav amp is my 78 JMP 2203 with NOS pr...

Re: which tube is better GT EL34M or GT E34Ls

The EL34M is a Mullard copy and is probably their best El34 tube.

Mullard made EL34's under various Philips brands. The most common were Amperex and Valvo. These are just relabeled xf series tubes.

Re: Do You know These EL34s?

Yeah those GT's are relabeled RFT's. Nice set. There are still thousands of RFT's for sale out there. You can get a NOS quad for around $220. Hell, Winged C's are getting almost that high.

Well just remember that RFT relabeled their EL34's for over 20 different brands, including Siemens. The dimple on the top is a dead giveaway.

Re: old mullard valves

Those old tube testers found in stores were just emissions testers. Basically, all they did was prove the tube would pass current. A real good tester back in the day was a transconductance tester. Right now, there are two excellent testers being made, but they are really expensive. The Amplitrex AT1...

Re: New Mullard 12AX7s?

To be blunt, the new CP Mullard is nothing like the old NOS Mullard. The construction is completely different. The new CP version does not sound anything like a NOS Mullard. As stated here in this forum, some amps sound good with almost any tube in them. However, some amps really sound a lot better ...
