Re: Any Sci Fi Freaks here?

Yea, it was a good show. Well written, multi threaded plot lines, extremeley well acted and great special effects....the whole Hendrix tie in was pretty brilliant. The only thing I didn't like was the finale...a bit too preachy. ...and yes, Katee Sackhoff is definitely a cutie. She always plays toug...

Re: Post here the pioneers of rock and roll music

Since the first post was Chuck from "Hail! Hail! Rock n Roll", I had to post this. At 1:05 Chuck and Keith have a little tiff about amp settings. At 3:15 they start rehearsing "Oh Carol". First Keith can't get the intro right, then he screws up the rhythm during the first verse....then he just can't...

Re: Please Introduce yourself...

I don't know how I missed this thread back in August, but I'll play. I'm not really big on pics of myself so it took some searching to find these: Here's me and Mrs. Phantum (a.k.a - Steve and Jen) at our wedding in Sep 2004: http://www.fm2cd.com/images/SEPTEMBER20040139.jpg The family in Oct 2011.....

Re: Marshall MA settings

Welcome to the forum. :howdy I'm curious why you set the bias to 37mV instead of closer to the factory default of 76mV? I'm asking because 37mV is cold for the 100C. The cold bias won't hurt the power tubes, in fact they will most likely last longer. However, the tubes won't break up as fast and the...

Re: MA100H - low output volume problem

Nothing says Rock n' Roll more than fixing a busted tube amp. :headbanger I'll be curious to see what you find. I know mine is pretty loud at 3 when native (no pedals and/or boosts) much less half way up. FYI - I did my surgery yesterday and measured the Sec 1 voltages afterwards (with the EL34's id...

Re: MA100H - low output volume problem

Did you have the tubes in and idling when you pulled the V? If so, with no load, those voltages would go up slightly. Each side of the rectifier should be getting half the transformers output (out of phase)...so...assuming those numbers are within spec, that would make it a ~500V transformer. I'm ac...

Re: MA100H - low output volume problem

As far as those voltages, I'm not sure. I don't know what the secondary voltages are either (if you did, everything else would be academic....you could calculate it). However, I don't think you have a transformer issue. Both the preamp and poweramp are fed from the same set of secondaries. Not sure ...

Re: MA power switch change

Haven't changed mine so I don't know specifically, but I'm 99.9% sure that it's a 15/16" x 1 1/16" x 1" deep switch with 4 pins.

Worst case, it should just be a matter of measuring the existing switch and making sure the replacement will fit in the opening before you buy.

Re: question about preamp tubes position

I'm not particularly fond of JJ's either. I tried them in the preamp (12AX7's) and didn't like them. I tried them on the power amp (EL34's & KT77's) and didn't like them. All those tubes are now triple redundancy emergency backups....meaning I will never use them. I'm not going to tell you not to tr...

Re: question about preamp tubes position

Ultimately, it's what Anitoli said.....it's all about what sounds good to your ears, so it's really about trial and error. Personally, I run a TungSol in V1, A Preferred Series in V2 and original Marshall branded tube (Shuguang) in V3. But I got there by trying 5 different brands in different combin...

Re: no output on my ma100h any advice ?

Just in case a bias doesn't fix the volume problem: compare the pre-amp tubes to the old ones, specifically the tube in the V1 position. A pre-amp tube with less gain than the original will definitely cause a reduction in volume in the V1 position. A good experiment would be to take the old tube tha...

Re: no output on my ma100h any advice ?

When you say fuses, are you referring to the fuses by the power socket or the ones on the PCB itself? There are two on the PCB (one for each bank of power tubes). If one of those is blown you will definitely lose audio output and a bad tube (or tubes) can cause them to blow. Also check the obvious.....

Re: Rush fans?

Rush is awesome. My sentiments are similar to the other comments except, for me, it was after "Test for Echo". They came back from that 5 or 6 year hiatus (following the death of Neil's daughter and wife) and just weren't the same....still good, but those deaths definitely mellowed them. Regardless,...
