Re: why do you live where you live?

I live in Ruther Glen, Virginia, but I was born and raised in New York. My family is originally from Virginia and I have family up in DC, so I always thought about moving here. I'm in Information Technology/Security and back in the early 00's, I worked in the World Trade Center. I was on vacation fi...

Re: Bright Cap Mod

There are couple of things I would try before opening up the amp and doing surgery. You'll be amazed at the difference in tone from the MA (clean or OD) by running it wide open with a volume pedal in front and a clean boost in the effects loop. If you have not already, definitely try a clean boost i...

Re: KT77 in MA

It sounds like you are going through the same thing I did a little over a year ago. When one of my stock =C='s crapped out, I tried a couple of different kinds of EL34's, then KT77's. In the end, I put a new set of =C='s in. To my ears, the KT77's had a great metal/seething tone at high gain. The pr...

Re: RIP Jeff Hanneman

I'm pretty shocked as well. Like you said Surly, I was a huge Slayer fan growing up and many of those early Hanneman riffs were the first I learned to play. Hell, my first gig was playing Slayer covers. Learning to play those songs correctly took practice and patience...which made me a better guitar...

Wah in front of the amp and delay in the loop.

Re: What a horrific day.

Fact - 168 people killed on Oklahoma with a truck filled with fertilizer. Not one bullet fired. Fact - 2996 killed on 9-11 by box cutters used to hijack and crash air planes. Not one bullet fired. If turning in every gun I own would stop all the hate and murder in the world, I would do it in a heart...

Re: What a horrific day.

Already, the gun control nuts are chiming trying to blame firearms. :bang Instead of trying to control who owns a gun or not...maybe we should start policing who should and should not be allowed to have children. I know that's a slippery slope but, like you said Surf, there's way to many unqualified...

Re: Loss of volume after retube

On the MA50, bias should be set to 38mV. 41 should not cause a volume drop nor should it cause you any issues. I will say that I when I re-tubed my MA100C I noticed a big difference in the position of the bias pots to achieve the same mV setting between JJ's and Winged C's. So my first guess is what...

Re: MA-50 no output-found problem though

I never put a meter on the secondaries so I don't know what the voltages are. You could try PM'ing SteveD on these forums. He works for Marshall and would probably know. Failing that, I would give them a call.

Re: pickups!!!

The way I understand it, the Gain control is in front of both stages of OD in the preamp, while Crunch is in between those tubes and then piggybacked off the gain.

Re: MA-50 no output-found problem though

Sorry, I thought the schematic had the voltages. I could swear I found a place online that sold them, but I can't find it now. You could try calling Marshall to see if they can help with both. You could also call some transformer manufacturers to see if they can help source a transformer. The only o...

Re: pickups!!!

In the original (pre-revoiced, which is what mine is), Crunch controls the difference in gain and volume between OD and the boosted OD. In other words it changes the gain and volume of the un-boosted OD channel when compared to the boosted mode. If I understand correctly, in the re-voiced model, it'...

Re: MA-50 no output-found problem though

You should be able to find the voltages in the schematic: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22429717/MA100_MA50.v.3.pdf

I remember seeing the transformer someplace online, I just forget where. I searched on the the part numbers in the above schematic.
