Re: Marshall, what is going on.

It happens all the time when companies move away from their core business. Now Marshall are trading on their brand only. There attempts to keep up with market trends are substandard (ie. the CODE amps), and their branding of "lifestyle" products cringe worthy. They need to recapture the middle groun...

Re: 1967 50W Plexi model 1986 Vs 2015 50W Plexi model 1987X

Aren't 67 plexis tube rectified? And did Johan say that this amp was also bass spec? If so, you'd expect a tube rectified bass spec amp to sound quite different to an amp with a solid state rectifier. Also, I think the 1987X is modelled after a mid-70s plexi, which is inherently brighter and gainier...

Re: SL5 production ended

I really like the SL5, though have never owned one. The combo of low wattage and a bigger cab is a good one, and I like the tone of this amp. For my preference, I prefer it to the Astoria range, which is probably a bit polite and refined for my liking. But these Astoria amps obviously sound great. D...

Re: Angus Young Joins Guns N’ Roses

I gotta say, I'm pleasantly surprised by how good he sounds on that track. I thought this union was going to be a trainwreck, and it may still be, but Axl sounds great, just as he did in his first outing with G'n'R.

Re: AC?DC

I'll believe the Axl Rose rumours when I see him on stage with the band. It just doesn't seem a good fit. Perhaps it's a commercial decision, and Rose's star power is expected to offset the loss of an established band member. On Johnson's hearing loss, Johnson says it's from racing cars rather than ...

Re: NAMM UPDATES

Something which is a bit odd with the CODE is how they've named the cabs. Rather than say "1936", why not "2x12 G12-T75"? Outside of Marshall nuts, who knows was a 1936 cab is? A lot of people think a 1987 amp or 1960A cab has something to do with the years 1987 and 1960.

Re: Fryette power station

It doesn't matter what order you power up the Unleash and an amp. I've done it both ways numerous times with a few different amps, and it hasn't hurt them. I'm pretty sure the manual says it's safe to do so as well.

Re: NAMM UPDATES

Softube did the 1959 plugin/sim, and that sounded pretty great from the demos I've heard. If that plugin is an indication of how these models sounds, it should be a great bit of kit.

Re: Marshall 2525 Mini Jubilee

Looks like a welcome addition to the stable. I wonder why they haven't released a plexi with a low/mid powered power section? Seems so obvious, would be easy to do, and would undoubtedly sell a shed load too. A 1959 mated to a switchable 5/20W power section like this mini Jub would reinvigorate Mars...

I saw them in Melbourne, Australia last week. What a concert!

Angus was unbelievable playing his physical style of guitar throughout the concert. They sounded great.

Sounds fantastic. The 7 watt version is what the Class 5 should have been. They have out-Marshalled Marshall.

Re: Suggestions for 18W plexi-ish amp

I'm surprised the 2061x has been dismissed as a possibility, but I think it's worth considering. It's true about the web demos, I haven't heard but one or two that does a good job of showing what the amp really sounds like. I think its fair to say it doesn't sound like a Plexi - it doesn't. But it ...
