Re: NAD - Hughes & Kettner Grandmeister 36

Hi Bijou and congratulations. A very nice amp for sure. Generally they use V30s with this amp. T75s might have too much thump for a beefy sounding H+K. Be prepared to roll off some bass. Al Thanks for the tip(s). There will be a significant learning curve for me with this amp. I'm pretty much just ...

NAD - Hughes & Kettner Grandmeister 36

I've been gassing for this amp for months and FINALLY came across a reasonable deal for a used one with the optional midi pedal, original manuals and packaging. Just received it yesterday. I'm surprised how small the head is. The last time I saw one in person was ~3 or 4 years ago. I'll try to post ...

Re: The "that guy" thread

Let's have some fun with this. Possibly a little at each other's expense so no visits to butthurtia here. We all know "that guy" that plays guitar or is in a band. The thing is, there are many types of "that guy" so I thought we might catalog them! If you freely admit to being a "that guy," feel fr...

Re: High school reunions - who attends these?

I attended the last two my class held for the 30th and 35th reunions a couple of years ago. I never received an invitation prior to that and only found out about the 30th through someone who worked in the same building I did who graduated a year before me. I was never part of the "in" crowd and many...

Re: Uli Jon Roth

I started following Uli in 1975 during his Scorpions days with the release of the In Trance LP, and subsequently bought his first 3 solo LP's with Electric Sun (Beyond The Astral Skies was a bit "abstract" to me) as soon as they hit the store record bin. Where his playing still heavily emulated Hend...

Re: Marshall Kerry King JCM

I thought you might be able to switch voltages on this but perhaps this is over my head. However, the rear panel in the manual shows the fuse ratings for both 110V and 220/230V. http://www.blamepro.com/Marshall/manuals/2203KK_hbk.pdf

Re: New or used. What you prefer?

I strongly prefer new but I've also purchased some real "pre-owned" gems, as well. What I like about a new guitar is that I can break it in my way (not that any special care or treatment goes into the process other than a basic cleaning after use and not abusing it) thereby forming a "personal bond"...

If I were to make an amp purchase decision based on this test, I'd instantly choose the 800!

Re: My new 100w amp

Al, seems like quite a versatile piece. I've been "jonesing" for a Hughes & Kettner Grandmeister 36 lately with midi and iPad app control as well to access setting. I'm so craving this thing right now. I may just take the leap within the next week.

Congrats on the update! I love the V. It's a very personal thing to have the look and feel that one is completely comfortable with. It sort of frees the soul, so to speak.

Re: Mmm... Brisket...

That's awesome! Wish I had been invited! ;-)

Try a "Chinese Cowboy Platter". Steamed rice as a base, topped with double brisket (cubed) and bar-b-q sauce over it (to taste). a variety of veggies on the side and all- you-can-drink iced tea. Helps to forget some of those dog days we're getting.
