Advice on Using the Vintage Modern

As folks who've seen my recent posts know, I picked up a Vintage Modern 2466 halfstack again after having sold my first maybe eight or nine years ago. Since then I've been using a TSL122 and for the material we do in my classic rock band it's great having a usable, loud clean tone, a good sounding r...

Re: Low Range Volume and High Range Boost Volume mod

Yep, I understand all that. I owned a Vintage Modern about ten years ago (this is my second) and I've read many of the technical posts on this website and the old vintagemodern.com web site. I'm pretty sure I've seen exactly this same mod described on these pages and even a photograph of it, with tw...

Re: Amp color...

It's funny, I remember my first Vintage Modern to be VERY purple in color, but the one I picked up last month looks black in most light. You have to look really close to see all the purple pigmentation. Same with the matching cab. I'm sure Marshall didn't change the purple color of the amps, did they?

Low Range Volume and High Range Boost Volume mod

I've heard about and I think seen pictures of this particular mod ,which consists of adding two additional volume knobs to the front panel of the Vintage Modern, one for the Low Range so you can bring it up to match the volume of the High Range (or set it where ever you like) and a second which acts...

Re: I'm Back!

Thanks, guys! One of the things I remember from the old discussions on the MarshallVintageModern forum (and one of the reasons I sold mine) was that you could not boost the Vintage Modern, that any kind of boost pedal just added gain but no volume. Isn't that the case? Or are we saying boost pedals ...

I'm Back!

I've been playing lead guitar for over forty years now. I've had lots of guitars and amps. A few years ago I checked out a Vintage Modern at Guitar Center - here's a video my daughter took of the experience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFriZ8xb2UY I liked it so much I sold a '78 JMP MV 100 watt ...

Re: VM and the King of Tone Pedal?

Very old thread, but I decided to revive it because today Analog Mike told me I can order my King of Tone (I think I was on the list for 2 years). I don't much feel like spending the money right now (although I can sell it for a profit on ebay instantly) and I am still happy with my OCD/RC Booster ...

I'd actually love to find a 425B cab used in good condition - it's been years since I played a full stack!

Re: which vintage Marshall does the 2466 most closely resemble?

however if you play in high range this clean boost solution does not really work that well… Yeah, there's the rub for me. I just can't stop playing in High range - it sounds WAAAAAY too good to me, much better than any pedal through Low range that I've ever heard. It seems to me that in the old day...

Which clean boost do you use? I would love a simple solution to take my awesome VM rhythm tones into solo volume land!

Re: White scuffs on the VM tolex

I saw your demo on youtube. Is it true that you sold your JMP setup for the vintage modern? I have the vm and the jmp. I couldn't part with either one, but I'm constantly on the fence about my tone. One day I'm all about classic heavy rock from the 70's. Then the next I'm wanting the more metal sou...

Re: White scuffs on the VM tolex

The cab is also starting to get nicked at this point. I'm trying to be REAL careful with it, but that's hard when you're carrying it in and out of houses, cars and clubs all by yourself. The tolex is in excellent shape except for the dings and tears where it bangs into the door jamb or the car door ...

Re: White scuffs on the VM tolex

Thanks, very much for the reply, as always, Steve. As I'm one of those rare lead guitarists who didn't go to art school I don't think I'll be painting my Marshall just yet. :) Covers or cases, I guess that's the choice for me. I'm very careful with the head and cab but putting those things in and ou...

Re: White scuffs on the VM tolex

Finger nail polish remover??? That's one of the craziest sounding ideas I've ever heard but lots of very effective remedies are crazy sounding, so I'll definitely give it a try. And in a house with three daughters and a wife I'm sure there's lots of fingernail polish remover to be found here. :) Jesse
